There should be a screw or two screws on the bottom of the laptop next to a release. unscrew the screws and try sliding out the hard drive, if there is a black piece of plastic thats on the end carefully remove it, the pop that piece onto the new one. unless your laptop uses sata drives, then just pop a new hard drive in.

It always crashes for NO reason what-so-ever.even if i don't log into windows IT CRASHES.pleas help.(P.S. i have a duron cpu not athlon.) more information on PC:1 GB RAM,152 GB hard disk and ATI radeon...

You may have a faulty version of Windows. The only thing to do is go to a IT support center like Best Buy or Radio shack. The hard drive may have crashed, which means the computer doesn't have the proper files to start up. This means you would need to replace the hard drive. Reply if you have any more questions. Good Luck, Cooper. (Please give a good review, I am doing this for a summer job!)

Competer starts, black screen, no power to wireless keyboard or mouse. Won't boot up.

I'm sorry to say this but these are signs of your computer's hard drive crashing. Hard drives (from what I've been told by other experts) typically crash after about 4-6 years of intense use. That's why I always recommend people backing up their important files every year. This has happened to my laptop before, I've had the same symptoms.

Now what about your files?

Well if you're lucky, you can ask a Geek Squad rep. from Best Buy or anyone else with proper experience to try to salvage your hard drive. Anyway you'd have to buy a new hard drive and replace your crashed one.

Solution: Take your computer to an expert to help you recover your hard drive files and replace the hard drive.

After improper shut down, my Western Digital 1T firewire hard drive is no longer recognized

Ouch. It might have crash, sorry about that. On that big of the drive, if it doesn't shut down right, it can ruin it very easy. When you shut down properly it parks the head, and when it doesn't the head doesn't get park, and it tryies. When that happens it will crash the drive. I would try to do some diagnostics to it and check and I hope I am wrong, but it doesn't sound good at all.

What happen if computer hard disk overload

your hard drive would eventualy crash and seeing that the drive is overloaded there wouldn't be sufficient space left for System Restore to run as it needs a fair amount of space to run. My advice is to always keep about 10% of your HDD size open for System Restore to run properly in case of a HDD crash or system crash.

From your description of the issue, the most likely senario is a hard drive failure. Replacement hard drives run $50 to 100 or so and are generally fairly easy to change
