Question about Kodak Carousel 4600 Slide Projector

1 Answer

Removed carousel midway by lifting release as a slide fell down,

Now put on carousel and it keeps popping up and will not advance.Help!
I think tou can only reove the carousel in the start spot but it would not advance.
How do I get the gears to engage to work again? This amazing projector dates to 1961.

With the tray removed, cycle the projector in Reverse button 5-6 times. If it is just a mechanism jam from removing the tray mid-cycle, this will cure it. To set the tray back to Zero, FIRST make sure the locking ring is in place and tight on the top of the tray. Then turn the tray upside down & release the latch and rotate the bottom plate back to it's home (Zero) location.

The carousel in my slide projector is stuck

I presume you are talking about a kodak projector. Look down into the center of the slide tray as it sits on the projector. There may be a small slot. Get a quarter, put it in the slot and turn it clockwise (?) a little, then lift the end of the tray furthest from the stuck slide. The tray should lift away. WITH THE RING ON, turn the tray over and rotate the metal bottom of the tray until it clicks, returning it to the "zero" position. Turn off the projector (if it's on) and retrieve the slide. Turn the projector on and hit the FWD button to get the arm situated correctly.

Kodak 850 Carousel Projector tray won't advance

The Carousel 850 is 40-45 years old. The symptoms you describe indicate the timing is off. Timing is an "adjust & test"..... try a SMALL adjustment and then test it.... adjust again & test again. Repeat until you get smooth tray action. See the attached illustration:

How to remove a carousel stuck on a Kodak Carousel projector

No problem! FIRST, make sure the locking ring is in place and tight on the top of the tray. Next, locate the center hub (the hole in the center of the tray fits over it). In the center of the hub you will see either a "coin slot" or a small metal lever. Push the lever in the direction it will move and at the same time lift the tray off the projector. If you have a "coin slot), use a quarter to turn the coin slot until the tray is released. Turn the tray upside down, replace any slides that may have left the tray when it became stuck, and rotate the bottom metal plate until it locks in the locating slot. Turn on the projector and cycle it a few times IN REVERSE without a tray on it. this unlocks the jam in the projector. You should be good to go now!! Good Luck !! Jim

My Kodak Carousel 650H has a stuck slide and the tray won't move. The stuck slide is lined up with the "gate index." I tried releasing the tray but only one side of the tray releases. The...

Two steps.
1) Look down into the center of the carousel. There should be a round, flat silver knob with an elongated notch in it. Take a coin (US 5-cent piece or similar) and use it to turn the knob. This releases the catch on the metal plate under the projector. You should then be able to lift the carousel off. Be careful: some slides will fall out as the slot is not aligned with the carousel body properly once you do this.
2) Make sure the locking ring on top of the carousel is in place (or else take out all your slides. Turn the carousel over and gently rotate the metal plate covering the bottom of the carousel into position. You will hear/feel a "click" when it's in place.

The projector may have jammed because there are two slides stuck in the viewing slot--check for this before you put the carousel back on the projector. If it jams a lot the metal plate under the carousel may be bent.

Projector just jammed. cannot remove carousel or advance or reverse direction

This is a pretty common problem. First, make sure the locking ring on the top of the slide tray is on tight! Next (power off), place a quarter in the center hub of the projector and turn (while lifting the tray). If you have a newer projector it will have a plated slider that you can move with your fingertip, instead of the quarter. Lift the tray off the projector and turn it upside down (now you know why I said "make sure the locking ring on the slide try is on tight"!!). Remove the slide in the gate of the projector and return it to the slot visable through the plate on the bottom of the tray. Keeping the tray upside down, pull back on the short metal spring near the outer edge of the tray. Holding that spring in, rotate the metal plate until it gets to the "zero" location on the tray. Release the spring.
Now turn on the projector (without the tray) and cycle it 3 or 4 times in Reverse (that clears the jam). Replace the tray and you are good to go!!
By the way, closely inspect the corners of your slides. If they are de-laminating, or if the entire slide has a "bow" to it, you will continue to have problems with your 140 Slide Trays. They were designed to hold the absolute maximum number of slides, with very little margin for error. If your slides are like mine, you may be better off moving them to 80-Slide Trays (available cheap and in great numbers used on the internet.
If this has helped you, great!! If you have more questions, please ask!! Please take a minute and give FixYa some positive feedback if I have helped you!
Good Luck !!

Kodak Carousel slide projector: The 'select' press-down button (which allows you to move the slide tray to any location) is stuck. So, no slides can be shown.

I'm not sure what generation Carousel you have. And I'm assuming in it's current state you can place a tray on the projector & rotate it all around, but no slide will drop. That means something is holding the slide lift lever it it's "up" position.
The SELECT button is spring-loaded, so that it should return to "button up / slide lift lever down" when the button is released. You can check to see if the spring has broken or unhooked (requires removing the bottom cover). Beyond that, this could be a jam in the slide change mechanism, which requires a level of training to diagnose. I recommend you contact a factory-trained repair dealer for assistance. The good news: parts are still available from: www.micro-tools.com
Good Luck !

MODEL 760h WILL NO LONGER ADVANCE SLIDES

The KODAK Carousel 760H was manufactured approximately between 1971 & 1981.
The problem you are describing is most likely a broken cycle solenoid "link". This "link" connects the cycle solenoid and the slide change mechanism. Repair parts are still available, but this is a repair best left to a factory-trained technician. Contact an Authorized Repair Dealer.

By the sounds of your description, your projector needs an adjustment to the slide change mechanism. This is best done by a factory-trained dealer, who has the service manual. Sorry I can't be of more help. Happy New Year!

Sometimes stop advancing. sometimes keep advancing 5 to 8 slides.

the mechanism needs cleaning. it is an almost purely mechanical device and needs greasing. the old grease gets hot and dusty and starts to get sticky. when this happens, the moving parts tend not to move. the mechanism needs to come out for a cleaning and regreasing.

Kodak Carousel 760H wont advance or reverse

You have jammed the slide change mechanism. Turn the projector off. Remove the tray using the emergency release slot in the center hub of the projector. Turn the projector on and cycle it a few times in reverse, then in forward. That usually clears a mechanism jam.
