Question about Brother MFC-5840CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

Red not printing

My printer has worked perfectly then, all of a sudden the red ink won't print. I've checked that the cartridge isn't empty and made sure it's been put in correctly. I've also done countless test prints and ink cleans. I'm not at all technical so now I'm stumped. Thanks for reading.

While the cartridges are full, my red prints like yellow, while the yellow doesn't print, and the blue is very pale.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've tried this and it looks wet on the bottom and comes off red on a kitchen towel but it still won't print.

I have the same problem, but my yellow won't print either. After changng cartridges and running numerous cleanings, I called Brother (they have the WORST customer service) and the rep informed me that they can't help me unless I'm using genuine Brother ink cartridges, which I'm not. I've been using generic for over four years and he said generic brands will clog the printer. I don't understand how switching will UNCLOG it, but I've decided to toss this machine and go with someone else. It's been fine for five years, and compared to some of the reviews I've read on Amazon, I got my money's worth!

The only thing I can suggest, short of replacing it, is to shake the cartridge, hard. That sometimes will clear interior clogging. If you see fresh ink on the bottom, you're on your way. Put the cartridge back in and run another cleaning.

Came out Red on the bottom? Good. Did you run another cleaning on it? Actually sometimes it takes more like 5 or more. Since you have ink coming out, cleaning may solve this.

The printer's lying to me

The printer requires both cartridges to have ink before the printer will initialize and operational. Even if you are only printing black and white both cartridge have to contain ink or the printer will error out. This is standard on all ink jet printers from every manufacturer. You will have to get ink before you can print.

My Pinnacle Pro 901 is set to print using black ink only but it keeps telling me I need to replace color cartridges and won't print.

You won't be able to print if one of the cartridges is out of ink. The printer needs all cartridges with sufficient ink levels to prevent damaging the printhead.

Every time a cartridge is replaced, all colors are primed simultaneously thus the need for all cartridges to have ink.

Hp office jet 5610 wont print colors correctly

Some printer software that detect ink levels won't recognize a cartridge that's been refilled. They treat the cartridge as empty although you've filled them with ink. You can try removing the HP software that pertains to the printing functions only (not the scanner abilities). You can also do a Power reset. Remove the printer cartridges, turn off the power, remove both the Power cord and USB cord (if applicable) for 10 minutes. After reconnecting the USB and power cords, install the cartridges as you normally would. The printer should treat them as new.

My epson DX8400 won't print yellow at all, green prints as blue, red prints pink on certain documents i've created. I have printed an email off today which printed all the colours perfectly??

In most cases the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.
Activate head cleaning before a test is taken . Sometimes it is possible that the head is not reacting to the need of the PC command or can be an issue with ink drying or poor ink cartridge contacts. Sometimes the power supply unit must be checked as a poor SMPS unit can deliver low voltage and cause issues to the printer function. Check all the leads and connections of the mother board , the tags to the ink cartridge. Also check the mechanical settings of the ink cartridge , if jammed or tight remove motor and manually free the drive before it is set back.

Thank you for using Fixya

No magenta ink, just need to print in black but won't let me.

Hello.
Hold down the Stop/Reset Button (it has a red triangle on it) on your printer for 10 to 15 seconds until the light stops flashing.
This will disable the ink level monitoring for the empty cartridge, but be careful not to print with a completely empty cartridge, as this can burn out the print head.

Hi, I have re-filled the black toner cartridge, but the display says it is still empty. The red light is on and it won't print. Any suggestions please? Many thanks.

you need to use the menu on the printer and find the selection that says printer options-> ink cartridge-> new ink cartridge. what happened is you never told you printer that you were installing a new cartridge so it thinks that its still the old one. The printer actually never checks cartridge levels it just makes predictions based on how many pages you have printed.
