Another Toshiba R15 Question

Sorry, I'm new to this forum. I asked this on my first thread - but perhaps I need to start a new one. Here's the paste:

Comment by tbird285, posted on Mar 23, 2008 Thank you kindly. F2 it is. But something's not right. It stops the process at the "Toshiba" screen and allows you to highlight one of the five little icons at the bottom center; I tried each one of them and each of them only brought up the 30 second screen to choose "safe" mode or last known good config, etc. I still can't get to the BIOS setup. Thoughts?? Recap: Need to get into the BIOS to reset to defaults. F2 stops the Windows boot - but each of those little CD-ish icons and the others (5 total) all sent me to the same screen mentioned above. I believe that screen is part of Windows and not a BIOS function. Help please. Thank you. ~AJL

Hey, thanks for your fast reply. I had a suspicion it would be something like this. It started with a bad virus and a trojan horse. I think it killed the BIOS. Onward. Thank you again. ~AJL

    Roger that... will do.

  • tbird285 Mar 23, 2008

Whoa - excellent. I'm not as savvy as you guys though. I'm a desktop guy - this is sort of unfamiliar territory for me. 2 questions; 1) how do I back up the notebook's BIOS? 2) I'll download this link to my desktop and burn a CD. I don't even have floppys around here anymore. Once on CD - what are the steps to install in the notebook?
    Thank you!!

Thanks to all for really good information. The rest lies on a wing and a prayer. Happy Easter!

Here is the bios for your laptop.. unzip-> put it on a floppy or cd->restart->flash bios.
Dont forget to backup your current BIOS. It is compatible with the entire r10 and r15 series

Flashing bios is not very hard.. just insert the cd it will boot from it and then follow on screen instructions.. As for backing up BIOS your motherboard will have a jumper with 3 positions 1,2,3. Move it to position 2 to save current bios then to 1 to load defaults and then move it to 3 again. "Do this before you begin flashing the BIOS"
    Good luck!

For more info on where to find it refer to your laptop's user manual in Moterboard section. Usually its next to the CMOS battery. Also the motherboard is found under the laptop keyboard you must unscrew a couple of screws and then rise it upwards to access it.

Reloaded my toshiba r15-2822 cant find 3

Ok you made a mistake, there is no r15-2822, it should be r15-s822. The driver page is here http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=882875&rpn=PSR10U&modelFilter=R15-S822&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663. If you have trouble finding the drivers for your OS, you can always use another os driver but is not recommended.
Download this program. Unknown Devices (UKD) This program is very good at Identifying the device. Just right click the listing and click search web then remove everything in the search except the device ID and this will tell you exactly what the Unknown Device is.

My Satellite R15 S829 recovery disk was lost

You can call (800) 457-7777 and get a new set. I see Toshiba has bumped the shipping and handling to $24.95 standard, $29.95 next day. Have your serial number and a credit card handy.

Clean dust from tablet pc screen

Hello,

I have an R10 tablet.
I once asked a Toshiba certified technician if I could remove the screen cover and I was told that I am not supposed to do that.

Maybe you shoul take the unit to a Toshiba repair center in your town, or country.

Hope it helps.

Toshiba Satellite R15-S822 will not turn on

toshiba batteries, not all .. but many just have problems ...
try this ...
pop the battery out ...  and plug in the ac w/o the battery in place ... if this works .. you need a new battery ...
otherwise .. try another battery ( same model , of course ) if this works ... you need a new battery
look up your battery on toshiba and/or sony's website (battery recall program)
that's all i can think of right now .. let me know if any of this helps
