Our Microwave's buttons all seem to work, except the microwave generator seems to not want to come on.
By generator, I think you mean, the magnetron that heats the food, correct? Either the magnetron has fried or some part of the circuitry to it has fried. If the magnetron has fried, then you are better off getting a new microwave as the magnetron costs almost as much as a new one. Working on a microwave can be dangerous, so if you want to see if something else is fried, find someone with electronic expertise to test the components to the magnetron.
