Question about Televison & Video

3 Answers

My Toshiba 32" TV Model CZ32T31 is nine years old. I can turn the power on and off okay but the picture and sound have started to pop off after awhile. It might stay on for awhile and other times the picture and sound won't come on at all. Sometimes if I bump it on top it comes on. Can it be fixed or is it done. It was a good tv until now. Thank You.

It's probably done, be glad it lasted 9 years. You got a lot of use out of it. If anything, take it to a place to see what a repairmen says which should cost much less than having one come to see it and I'm sure it is out of warranty. Go find another Great tv. Nows your chance... Good luck with whatever you decide

big issue on these older sets is the leaky picture tube, and the capacitors that dry out after some time.

I would take it to a repair shop, they charge around $50 to look it over and will tell you want it would take to fix it. This is your best bet at this point if you want to keep it.

42 inch Toshiba Plasma TV has sound but no picture, wife heard a small pop when the picture went off. It is about 4 years old. What could be the problem and is it cost effective to fix or replace it.

That popping sound is usually a capacitor or "cap". Depending on what board it was on, would depend on what needs to be replaced. Usually its the main "power" board. I would say it probably would be worth replacing as these boards are generally not that expensive. If you take the back of the TV off, you can look at the boards. Caps are cylindrical and are various heights and widths. However they should have a flat top and bottom. Look for one that has a round top or bottom. Do NOT touch the boards though. Caps can store energy long after the TV has been unplugged and static electricity can damage sensitive chips.

sounds like a bad capacitor in the deflection circuit or a leaky diode which is causing the problem. Adjusting wont help.

No picture

Just increase the screen voltage slightly by turning the screen control on the LOT and if a horizontal line appears, check the vertical IC supply, and if everything is okay, change the vertical IC, it is not costly.

Toshiba CZ32T31, Vertical Deflection?

Usually the solder joints on the vertical output IC crack and the little pico-fuse opens. Resoldering the IC and replacing the pico fuse should bring the picture back. If you have never heard of these parts before and have no idea how to find them, then allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.

No pic, no sound

Hey Wilt: We had the same problem, for the same model of Toshiba TV. Had it repaired yesterday. Turns out the problem was the power supply (P.C.B). The total cost was $192.66 Canadian funds (taxes and labour all in). Our model was 6 years old, buts its playing like a brand new unit now. Hope this helped ...... Good luck
