Question about Canon PowerShot S3 IS Digital Camera
!st time using the camera I took a few practice shots and downloaded them onto my computer. Since then, although the indicator light shows that the camera is on, and the zoom lens will work, neither the viewfinder or the LCD screen are working. Both are dark and nothing can be seen from either of them. I put new batteries in the camera. I have fiddled with the buttons on the camera trying to fix the prombem myself, which might have not been the wise thing to do. In any case I am stumped.
When you disconnected the camera from the computer, did you remember to use the "safely remove hardware" function? If not, you may need to reset the camera. If you can get into the camera menu, just scroll to find "reset" and follow the instructions. If you can't, try this. Remove the card and battery...press all the buttons...leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on.

It has recently come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensors used in this Canon digital camera may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments.
Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, products exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.
