Firstly do not panic. Electronics is fussy, but more durable than people give it credit for.

Open the case and part the front and back to let air circulate, and place it in a warm, well ventilated place.
You can gently hold the case back together and try it after a couple of days.
Mine took over a week, but don't rush.
A fan heater on warm could speed things up, but with these things heat is worse than water.

The screws are tiny, assuming screws are holding it together, it may be just clips but i would expect screws.
You will need a set of those cheap precision screwdrivers from a $2 shop. Try the smallest first.
Whatever you do, don't drop the screws, you'll never see them again.

The process worked for me, it wasn't as far along as i was out walking and got caught in the heaviest downpour in decades, but i have personal proof of concept.

You could go out and buy a new one but there is satisfaction in bringing a device back from the dead.

If you try it, I won't wish you luck, I'll wish you success.

Don't be afraid when your walkman is not working, because maybe there is a defective in your computer that's why your walkman is malfunctioning.
I've already experience your situation right now, and yo know what i did? I just went to a technicians who knows how to fix my walkman. Because there are possibilities that some virus roam in your walkman, and its all because of the computer. But one I am sure that is being infected by the virus from the computer. So before its to late you better go to the technician near your house so fix your valuable walkman. Otherwise, your walkman will be damage.

Sony MP3 player not recognized by Vista after Norton 360 added

Unscrew it and open the player. Cut all the wires. Then by the 24k gold wires at candian tire or home hardware. They are cheap. They cost about $10, 000 each roll. Then connect every thing back together and screw back together. Then plug USB to your player and the computer. Then the computer should read it. If not, then open Windows Media Player. It should show up on that. Still if not, then download the software Trojan Virus v.11. Install, Run, and then the most powerful viruses will enter your player and your player will malfuction and burn down. You might think, THATS EVEN WORSE! Dont worry,we still got a few steps left. Then go to your kitchen and start the fire on your stove. Go ahead and drop your player in the fire. Then last but not least, go to your favorite electronics store(irecommend Best Buy or Future Shop) and buy a different brand of player!(i recommend Apple iPods or Zunes) Hope this works! Thanks!

Did you know?
Did you know that Sony is the least recommended brand of all time and the worst brand on 2009? Hope it improves this year!

Sony walkman won't turn off

That's what all Walkmans do. They only seem to go into standby when they say power off. Batteries drain anyway, but maybe it is being switched back on accidentally, so you need to turn the hold switch on. Even then, it is not properly switched off, it just stops things happening like music starting to play. I find this very annoying too.

Sony walkman is not being recognized by XP as a portable device

I remembered that I had another problem with Windows Media 11 that seemed impossible to fix until I found somewhere that uninstalling or rolling back WM11 to the previous version then reinstalling fixed the issue. I decided to give that a try with this problem we're having and sure enough it worked. The Walkman is now recoginized as a Portable Device under Device Manager and in My Computer it is displayed as a Walkman and not a removable disk.

All you have to do is use add/delete software, delete or rollback WM 11 and then either use the Sony disc with WM11 or download a new version. All together it only took a few minutes and I'm back in business. No music or playlists were lost. Try it and let me know if it works for you.

Walkman

Hi...I just found help on the sony support page www.sony.com. You can delete songs by going to MY COMPUTER and clicking on the walkman as a storage device and delete files right from there under the music folder. Your MP3 will update when you unplug it from the computer.
