Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Okay, an expert just told me how to decrease the size of my photos for use in caring bridge. I went thru the 8 steps and it worked. I do have MicroSoft Office and also was able to get to the Microsoft Office Picture Manager where this was accomplished. However, once out of there, I don't seem to be able to locate that photo (though compressed & saved)and I don't know how to actually get it into the CaringBridge. Maybe this is too indepth of a question. If not, however, I'd sure appreciate your help. I was impressed at the solution to copy the picture to the Desktop and then proceed with the other steps. Thanks in advance! You guys are definitely making a believer out of me! My problem doesn't seem easy!

It's on the Desktop as Shortcut (2) to Special 2009 031; I realize I can change its name easily. I also think I understand exactly what you're saying. However, when I open this photo up on the Desktop it takes me right into the HP Image Zone; I don't know what to do with that. I think I'd like it to not be there, but maybe it doesn't make any difference. Any ideas?

fyi: I have an HP printer.

The title of the photo on my Desktop is Shortcut (2) to Special 2009 031 if this makes any difference. When I go to open it, it goes right to the HP Document Viewer. (I have an HP printer.)

My operating system is Windows XP.

What you describe sounds simple enough. I'm not sure what I'm doing incorrectly.

I was trying to make add'l comments as I'm having some difficulty. Finally, just said I accept. Info given me, however, has been excellent.

Hello,

since you saved the picture on your desktop before it was compressed, then it means the picture on your desktop is now compressed.

So when you want to upload the picture,:

  1. Click upload from the caring bridge,
  2. click browse
  3. then from browse try to locate your desktop so that you can gain access to the picture.
You can rename the picture so that you can recognize it easily. You can also remove the compressed picture from your desktop and save it in your document, so that is can easily be located while you browse the
picture.

I hope you understand this, if you don't please let me know so that I can direct you further, but try it first.

If you still don't get it, then let me know the operating system your computer is running, if its windows xp or windows vista?

Good luck.

    Hello,

its shouldn't have anything to do with HP image zone.

Since you understand how to upload the picture, I would advice that you start the whole process all over again from the compressing.

Copy the picture into your document this time and rename it. Then check the size of the picture before you compress, after compressing save, and check the size to be sure the picture was compressed successfully.

Then locate the picture from your document while you are about to upload. Its a very simple process, and I believe you will get everything successfully this time around.

Just take time to study the process, before you proceed.

I wish you the best of luck.

The display on the printer quit working. It is completely dark; so I can't make any changes to how I want to print. What is wrong?

It's almost certain to be a common fault with a tiny surface mount fuse on the display circuit board just behind the blank screen. The fuse is marked F1 and can be simply bridged to fire up the display again. The following method should work perfectly.

Steps I took – and it worked beautifully – display problem solved !!

    1. Ease off the plastic facia that covers the control buttons – (no screws – it just clips on)
    2. Remove the cross head screw that is seen to the bottom left of the display unit.
    3. Flip display unit open – remove the cross head screw that holds the dark plastic support clip that is behind the unit and top right ish!!
    4. Remove the display unit – unscrew the 4 small cross head screws that hold the display assembly together – NOTE THAT THE CONNECTING RIBBON RUNS THROUGH THE HOLE – I didn’t make a note at first, and it took me ages to work out where it went when trying to re-assemble it !!
    5. Mark the connecting ribbon so that you know which way up it should be, then carefully pull it away from the black connecting block – Re-assemble merely by pushing it carefully back into place.
    6. On the circuit board you will see a large (ish) black Integrated Circuit – using a magnifying glass you will see a tiny soldered fuse marked F1 just to one end of this Integrated Circuit.
    7. Using a single strand of 1 amp fuse wire and carefully soldered it across the two terminals - Some people decided to simply bridge the F1 fuse with a tiny blob of solder - both systems work and have caused no further problems in the past couple of years.
    8. Having a soldering tip small enough is vital if you are to attempt this – an ordinary tip is TOO BIG. I used a piece of copper earth wire (obtained from ordinary “Twin and Earth” electricians household mains wiring cable) I then wound it around my soldering tip and filled it down to a fine point.
    9. Re-assemble – switch on – and if you have been careful and succeeded in this feat of micro soldering – you should have a realistic chance of having a fully functioning display once again.
I do have a couple of photos of the F1 fuse - if you e-mail me I'll be glad to forward then on to you.

What is best size in kb to upload pics onto Lucid 8?

I'll assume you're Lucid 8 is an 8" frame which is likely to be 800 x 600 pixels.

Giving a size in KB isn't the best criteria - it depends on lots of things including what format you're storing in, the composition of the photo, the software you're using, how many photos you want to display and what you're storing them on. I'll assume the storage isn't an issue and you only care about quality.

If you're storing in JPEG, make sure your image is the same size as the frame (probably 800 x 600 pixels), for an average image, a good balance of compression and quality would be 100-250 KB.

    Incorrect record speed

do you have a reel to reel deck or another machine? You may also need a schematic. Make a copy of about 2 minutes of a tape on a working machine. Keep the original in the working machine. Each cassette deck needs a different size belt. Try putting different size rubber bands on it. Cassettes usually play at 1 7/8 IPS (inches per second) each speed increases or decreases by doubling or dividing by 2.

    Boot error and formating

Try formatting it in FAT 32 or FAT 16, the player sometimes can't read a different filesystem.
If that doesn't work, try upgrading the MP3 firmware, you can download it from the RCA Website (http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/)
Follow the steps carefully or you can render your player useless.
After the upgrade, the update program will format the player automatically with the correct filesystem.

Izone 550 senses SD card, but won't accomodate or write to it...

I would suggest the format option in the menu. i posted the manual it gives step by step getting to the format option. if it works on one but not the other even after formatting in problematic camera. I would suggest getting a different brand/size. There's a 1gig liimit, but i am currently using a panasonic 2 gig and it seems to be working at its stated size. Although i haven't filled it to see if any problems occurr.
    Hope this helps.
