Thank you for your solution. Upon further inspection an HDMI cabel was unplugged and you were right the source was wrong. This tv is mounted about 15ft near my cathedral ceiling and would have been a hugh job to repair. Thanks again!

Make sure you have the menu set for the correct video source, using your remote, test the set.
Remove the video feed coax cable and, all other "video in" wires then: retest (you may have a signal cable failure) If the set still acts the same way you have a short in the tuner circuit causing the power supply protect circuit to shut down to protect the set.

Gv 42l power blue screen no signal

Yes, a cap will rarely cause this issue.

If blue screen set is ok power wise.

If blue when connections are made to rear inputs also it means it is not the tuner in the set---a good idea is to hook a DVD up, turn it on and then the set--select that input with the DVD already on--

That aside you may want to make the effort to call Vizio and see if this is a known issue or if a software upgrade is available for this issue.

If I had to "guess" it will be the main board that processes all signal inside the set.

Do some research with GOOGLE by model number "known problems" blue screen only etc.

The tv had blue screen briefly showing "no signal" then turns off. ... and I am getting the same blue screen-no signal.

If your television is displaying a blue screen or no signal message and then turning off, your TV may be at an inactive input. Here's how you can get back to watching your TV:
1. Powering on your TV and press the INPUT button on the VIZIO remote control repeatedly until a picture re-appears.
2. If this does not work, try again but press the button slower this time.

I got this off the vizio website.

Check the cable connector. If it is OK then the turner has gone bad. Replace main board will fix it.
