Hp drives are in a seperate cage that must be removed before the drives can come out of it. If you look at the cage that the drives are in after the case is removed, there is a lever on the top corner closest to the front. This lever must be tilted forward and then the entire cage will slide forward out of the case, with all of the drives in it. you can then remove the screws and reverse the process with the new drive. just be careful not to cut any cables when you slide the cage back in!!!

Good Luck!!

How can I get a replacement power supply?

What you are after is an AC adapter this model I found on ebay has 120 volts to 240 volts to 12 volts make sure the DC voltage output matches the Voltage of your hard drive. The current output has to be the same amount or larger in value. So if your drive needs 2A a 2A or larger value means it can handle the current load put on it by the Hard drive.

this one below matches the exact model number of your hard drive

How can i get all my info from old hd to new one including os

If you've experienced trouble with your old hard drive, forget what I'm about to say here--you'll just end up copying bad data (including a corrupted OS) to your new HD.
Ok, having said that, if you're just upgrading to a newer, larger HD, and want to easily copy EVERYTHING, including Windows, to the larger one, first, go out, and buy a new one (yes, @Best Buy, or sometimes Office Depot or Staples has the 'best deals'), with this in mind:
Your laptop will only recognize a maximum of 120GB of space, so don't buy any larger (160GB and up) or they will all only show 137GB for your boot drive (although you can still accept that, and once done, merely download this freeware to create a new partition and use that as if it were another drive 'D:').
There are now only two major reputable dealers--Western Digital and Seagate ('cause Seagate bought out the third biggest, Maxtor, years ago).
Hard drives are one of the most justifiable new purchases, because 100% of them come with better hardware warranties than the ones do if you bought a brand-new laptop right now!
Seagate often sells theirs with a full-on 5-year replacement warranty, and Western Digital sells none with less than 3 years, so the $50-$100 you'll spend is more than worth it in a laptop.
Now, for the reason--those new HDs all come packaged with a software disc with Acronis' 'True Image' software, which will do all the work for you, perfectly, the very first time, as long as you follow the on-screen directions, and have the 'new HD' plugged in to your current laptop as an external drive--for that, you'll have to have a laptop IDE to USB enclosure (as in this link). They have 'em at Best Buy, but much more $$, I saw $39 online, so ...cheap may be fine, esp. if you only plan on doing this once!
Anyway, the software does the rest, immediately reading up that you have a new drive connected (after you install the CD), and actually asks you if you want to copy it (and you do).
It then performs a sometime lengthy bit-to-bit copy (you're legally required to kill off the old one or never use it again, by Microsoft's standards, remember)...and you're done--new, larger HD, with all your data AND Windows OS on it! NOTE: Sometimes this process requires that you reboot once again into your old hard drive with the new one still attached, to finish out!
Once this is done, you turn off your laptop, remove it's battery, then replace the old hard drive with the new one. If you've never done this, it's a lot easier than you'd think--Dell still offers this little method online at the following link>>>>>>>>CLICK HERE
See? Not hard at all!
Once you're done, and start the laptop back up, you'll see it act like it doesn't even know the difference, except you have more drive space.
Remember to download that freeware above (Partition Wizard) if you bought a drive larger than 120GB, because you can then make a new 'data' partition and use it to the max of that actual drive!

If the disk-drive was LARGER than 500GB, it definitely would be a SATA drive; nobody makes IDE disk-drives larger than 500GB.

How about getting your friend to help you open the case?

Given that it is four years old, it probably pre-dates most SATA disk-drives.

Or, take it to a computer-store, and have them open it, and sell you a brand-new (and thus more "reliable") disk-drive?

Unplug the pc from the wall; remove the 2 screws from the rear and remove the right panel; hard drive case  - bottom front - remove all cables; pull back, up, twist and remove the hd case out of the pc case; replace the hd and do the opposite to put it back.

The drive started acting up and now can not be recognized by either of two different computers. The white front light just flashes. Is there any hope.

Hi:
It might be that the drive has crashed, especially if it does the same on both computers. Harddrives are rather inexpensive these days, you can purchase a larger capacity one and install it in the same case, just open the case and take out the HD, and take it with you to the store, to make sure you get the same interface inside the case as with the HD. Install the new HD in the case and their you go.... New HD and More Storage space....

The HDD is damaged.

No, it is not possible to transfer the disc to another HD case. First, HDDs are assembled in clean rooms because minute specs of dust can ruin the disc; Second, the disc has addresses on it that correspond to the firmware on the drive

Sorry but you cannot download everything from your old hard drive to your new one, but all the data and files can be downloaded to the new hard drive, if you still have the old operating system installation Cd you can just use that for your new hard drive and that should be it you dont need to get a new operating system installation CD..

Simpletech hard drive not working

I have that problem similiar to yours. My simple tech stopped working for like two years so i decided to open up my simple tech and removed my HD away from the old enclosure so I can try building my own external hard drive for the first time. I bought another new 3.5 enclosure, IDE/ATA for the old HD. I put it in the new enclosure and it worked!

It's the only solution you can have. No need to retrieve data or re-format your HD. You can leave it the way you like...if you wanna reformat it...up to you.

Why move it at all. XP needs SP3 to read hi capacity drives. I use USB external drives without any problems to increase capacity without the hassles of moving files. There are software packages that will transfer data from one hard drive to another if you must.

HDD replacement for Toshiba Satellite M35X-S114

should be no problem adding a larger hard drive....If I were you I'd compare some prices of Hard drives and choose the one thats suits best...you're not restricted to toshiba hard drives either....advantages of installing a larger hard drive really relate to what you use the laptop for....if you store lots of music or have lots of big programs then a larger hard drive makes sense....also you'll find it easier to get a 60gig hard drive than a 40gig as that size of drive is quite rare nowadays
