If it's not wrinkling regular plain paper, then you need to tell the printer you're printing envelopes. Envelopes are thicker than letter paper. When you tell it to print, make sure you click on "Properties" and set the job for "Envelopes". Also, make sure the guides are set to fit the envelopes snugly.

I imagine you are putting your envelopes in the mp tray with the guides touching the top and bottom edges of the envelope. Turn the envelope around so it goes in the mp tray as if you were writing an address on it. In other words the quicker it passes thru the printer the less time it has to pass thru the fuser which is why you are getting the wrinkles. If you are using word to print the addresses then you must tell it you have turned the envelope around to get the address in right place.

How do I prevent wrinkled envelopes on laser printer?

No matter what you do as correctly all the above who answered, its a matter of the envelope. Envelopes are not steady media as in one side they have different thickness and friction. You need to try several in order to find a suitable and still you may have problem. There are special machines to print on envelopes

Brother HL-5370 DW printer is wrinkling every envelope that it prints. What to do?

Did you pull down the 2 levers on the back of the computer? I forgot to do this one time and all of my envelopes came out wrinkled. I looked up troubleshooting and realized I forgot to perform that step. Worked great once it was done!

Brother MFC-9840CDW wrinkles envelopes. Brother says this is "normal", and that the only way to 'fix' it is to open the back of the printer EVERY TIME YOU PRINT AN ENVELOPE and make some kind of...

Problem Solved!

I have a Brother MFC-8480 DN all in one printer, copier, fax and scanner.

I discovered that envelopes wrinkle because users, like me, didn't know that Brothers built in a no-wrinkle, pass through exit for envelopes, labels and thick paper.

Envelopes were never to be printed by inserting them in the front and letting them wrap around a HOT roller and get cooked and wrinkled. The way it works:

An envelope is inserted in the front and goes straight out the back of the printer through an exit door, completely avoiding the hot roll-through mechanism.

Take a look. On the back of the machine is a large pass through exit door. Just snap it open. You will see one blue lever on each side of the opening. Snap them both straight down to the . . .ta da. . ."envelope icons".

Put three envelopes in the front and they will print straight out the back, perfect and wrinkle free. After printing your envelopes, snap the blue levers back up and shut the door. Takes about five seconds to open the door and snap down the blue levers down/up.

Happy envelope printing.

Open the door on the back above the power cord. Rotate both blue levers all the way up so they change from "1" to "2". Wrinkle problem will be solved. This was in the troubleshooting section of the online user manual, page 95. You would think they would tell you about this in the envelope section of the manual.

Envelopes all come out of the printer wrinkled

Open the back of the printer. You will see 2 little blue levers on either side. Put them in the opposite direction, that is, if they are up, snap them down. I dont know the mechanics of this, but it worked for me.

Printing envelopes on HL4040CN

I just bought a HL-4040CN and all my envelopes wrinkled, regardless of the size, paper thickness or software settings (thin envelope, thick envelope, etc.). Here's how I solved the problem....Open the rear panel and you'll notice a small gray lever on each side, which is probably pointing to "A" on the scale (A, B, Envelope). Move both levers to "Envelope" and close the back panel. The troubleshooting manual says the levers should be moved back to "A" after printing the envelopes, but I left them in the Envelope position and can't see any difference when printing regular or test pages or envelopes, except the envelopes are no longer wrinkled. I called Brother and asked them if there was any reason why the levers can't stay in the Envelope position, and they told me they could be left there if it wasn't negatively affecting other documents. Now, I have a great printer that prints everything without any problems. Hope this helps.
