Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I just bought an Acer Aspire M5620 desktop, running Vista Home Premium, and want to add an older hard drive, DVD writer and a floppy drive (models WD800LB 80 G, Sony DRU-720A and Samsung DFD-321B respectively). All these use wider ribbon connector and different power connectors than I can find inside or on the motherboard, and there seems to be differences with harware fit as well. Am I out of luck with their (in)compatibility?

It seems that I have only one IDE connector on the motherboard, but I can use a double connector ribbon for two of the three drives (HD and DVD RW). However, I only have one power connector of the right type for the HD and DVD RW, so I will need a converter. I will also need a PATA to a smaller IDE plug convertor for the floppy drive.

    Do I have it right?

Sorry, the answer was for a different solution. In your case your computer uses SATA hard drives (on ports) that work on a different way from older IDE (PATA) hard disk. That is the reason why connector are different

However in your motherboard you should have two IDE connectors to install PATA drives, if you connect an IDE ribbon cable to the PATA connector on motherboard it should work.
Another solution may be buying an hard disk usb external caddy (the enclosure for external usb hard disk) and mounting the old hard disk in the external caddy, so that you can use it as an external disk. This will be much easier.
Note PATA technology use parallel data, SATA serial. SATA data transfer rate is much faster then PATA. If you can do not repalce your SATA hard drives for PATA.

Your options are either go to Acer for a replacement Vista recovery DVD or
Install a borrowed Vista DVD, must be same Vista Basic, Home Premium,
then use your registered CD key, normally located on the side or rear of your tower.
It will also tell which Vista type you have. You then must go to the Acer support site
and install then drivers for the componenets in you computer.
You will not have any other software installed that may have come with your
original setup from Acer. This option requires more work on your part, but
no cost to you. Acer will charge for a Recovery DVD, plus S&H.

Just want to now what is the biggest duo 2 cpu can you put in the acer aspire l310 desktop

This is the standard equipment for your model.
Problem is, your system is already maxed out for heat.
If you add a faster CPU, you will most likely suffer from overheating, but yes you can add up to a 3 gig+ duo with no problem fitting it in the socket. Expect your power supply fan to run constantly though.

Processor: 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo E6300
Memory: 1GB DDR2
Storage: 320GB hard drive
Optical Drives: Double-layer DVD±RW

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium

To buy pc

I would recommend a Dell Inspiron 531. They can be slightly hard to find, but they are cheap and pretty fast. Here are the specs for it:

300W LITE-ON PSU
2.2 GHz AMD Sempron LE-1250 CPU (waaaay faster than it sounds)
nVIDIA Integrated Graphics
Realtek HD Capable Integrated Sound
Dell 0RY206 Motherboard
PBDS DVD-ROM/CD-RW Drive
160 GB WD HDD
2 GB DDR2 RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium
