There can be multiple causes for this.

1) It is possible that you're clicking on the age of empires game already, but while age of empires isn't on your PC yet. Meaning you should Install the game another way. Just go "Start" > "computer" > (E:) drive. This should start up the game properly.

2) If this is not the problem, the problem might be that your data is corrupt or just damaged. Make sure your CD is clean. If you're not using a CD but just downloading the game, then this means the site you would have downloaded it from gives you corrupt data (mind possible viruses then!), meaning you should download it from another site.

If this does not solve your problem or does not accurately answer your question, please give more info about what exactly you are doing/using.

I have windows 7 and I want to play Age of Empire III. I get a message that I cna't play this game in windows 7. Can you help me? Thanks

Hello there!

First of all I would suggest trying to update your game by going here. Download the English version (if this is the language you need) and start updating your game. After it is done, I would suggest restarting your computer and running the game again.

If this does not work you can try another option. You will need to change the compatibility options:

  1. First of all, locate the executable or installer (if you are installing the game)
  2. Right click the exe or installer and click "Properties"
  3. Select the "Compatibility" tab
  4. The check off the checkbox for "Run this program in compatibility mode for..." and select "Windows Vista." (If this does not work, you could try Windows XP)
  5. I would also select "Run as administrator."
  6. Retry installing/playing the game. Good luck!

Can I download Age Of Empires: Rise Of Rome and install it on my MAC?

Age of Empires: Rise of Rome is purely a PC game. Without running a parallel on your Mac (or Bootcamp for intel Macs) it will not run on your computer.

Age of Empires 2 Installation - Arialnb

This is really old, but I'm going to post it here anyway in case others come across the same issue. Instead of doing jsperny's solution, there's a much easier one.
arialnb.ttf is a font type. You just have to copy and paste the fonts on the CD onto your computer.
1.) My Computer > Open > System > Fonts 2.) Copy all of the fonts in the folder 3.) Start > Control Panel > Classic View > Fonts 4.) Paste all of the fonts you just copied in there 5.) If you're asked to replace a font, just click yes
This is what I did, and it was much easier, and the game began to work fine for me.

Installation for Age of Empires 2 stalls.

I almost shot my self trying to install this. I had the exact same problem. What worked for me is go to the cd and explore. Right click on setup icon and got to the compatibility tab. set to windows xp, click on "run in 256", also "run in 640x480" click on run as administrator. Apply. Then try to run the install. This worked for me perfect.

Aoe 2 screen/colors get weird

Hi Emma, its a problem with the Aero Glass feature of Windows, I also have the same problem on Windows 7. To solve it I've found if you run the following in a batch file it works.

taskkill /F /IM Explorer.exe
age2_x1.exe
Start explorer.exe

Open Notepad and paste the above into it, change the age2_x1.exe to empires2.exe if you only have age of kings. and save as "ColorFix.bat" or what ever .bat << important. This simply closes Windows Explorer while the game runs removing the glass and starting when it exits. I've found disabling the themes under compatability does not fix it.
