Most laptops have a 'FN' key on their keyboard, near the bottom-left corner.

Most desktop computers, especially those with a separate keyboard, do _NOT_ have a 'FN' key.

With your SECOND (usually the RIGHT) mouse-button, click anywhere on your "wallpaper".
Click Properties.
Click Desktop.
You should see two rectangles, representing the "standard" video-output, and the S-VIDEO output.
Click "extend my desktop" onto the second rectangle.

How to connect a laptop to tv

The laptop has an additional connection for some type of external display. The connection will be a VGA Port, S-Video Port or an HDMI Port. The tv will need the same type of port as the laptop so that you can connect a cable between the two of them. If the connections are not the same, you will need some type of converter that will go between them to make them think they are the same.

Once you connect the two with a cable, take the tv's remote and press Select Input, then select the Input Source where the tv is to receive the signal (PC, S-Video, HDMI). Reboot the laptop and the video should appear on the tv.

The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

I cant run my gateway GT5676 pc in normal mode with Samsung TV / Monitor

If I'm understand you correctly you said you have the HDMI Cable and the VGA Cable comming from the Computer to the TV. You should only have one cable. Either use the HDMI from the computer to the HDMI to the TV or use the VGA from the Computer to the VGA on the TV. Once you have the cable connect select your input on the TV. If you have the VGA Cable connected your input to select on the tv will probably be PC or Computer. If you use the HDMI Cable your input to select on the TV will be HDMI.

One you connect the cables and select the input try rebooting the computer and the video might show up automatically on the tv. If not you will have to hit the FN (Function key) + the correct (F1 thru F12) key that corresponds to the external display. The correct key will probably have CRT/LCD on it or it might have the icon of a display. Press and Hold the FN key then hit the correct key (F1 thru F12) that toggles the display. The display will toggle on 3 setups (Computer only, TV only, both the TV and Computer).

Now as for not being able to boot up normally that's another issue.

I try to connect my pc with my tv with an hdmi cable 2m but my tv can't read it,so when i turn my tv channel to the hdmi port(tv) which i have connect the cable the screen of the tv is blank.in other words...

Once you made all the proper connection, meaning the hdmi cable from your laptop to your tv, and tunning your laptop to the right hdmi port (like hdmi side, rear1 or 2 however many hdmi input your tv has). Then I believe on acer model, you need to press the FN button and the F5 button at the same time that switches your external video source, Leave the Fn button press and then slowly press the f5 button key until your screen is display on the monitor HDMI. Like said earlier, you need to make sure the tv is tuned to the correct HDMI port.

Hi Henley,

Try holding down the blue fn key, and press and release f5. This key combination changes video output modes on Acer laptops. Also, bring your video resolution down to it's minimal settings and try again. Reply if you still have any issues and I can help further.

My screen is broken and i want to connect it to y t.v is a compaq lab top i connected d cable but my t.v says no video signal

Did you connect a VGA or S-Video cable?

Have you tried pressing the Function key (Fn) and the F4 key together? Give it a few seconds and the image should appear on your TV. On some models, it could be Fn + F7. Look for an icon on the F key of a monitor, TV, something that resembles the idea of your laptop connecting to a TV or monitor.

If that doesn't work, the resolution on the laptop may be higher than what the TV can handle. Try booting the laptop in safe mode if that's the case, and it should go to a low resolution.

Trying to connect hp pavilion laptop to tv with an s video cord but cannot get a visual on the tv

Hello,
When the hardware connection is made: S video in laptop port and S-video in TV there remain two things to do.
1. On the computer, extend your desktop to show on the TV. On my laptop I press Fn-F5, and an OSD appears. I can choose the output to the TV and the internal LCD by holding the Fn key while pressing the F5 key. Each time I press the F5 key the focus moves to another icon (TV only, Monitor only, LCD and monitor, etc.)
Once you know how to externd the display or divert it to the external screen, you can take care of the TV.
On the TV remote (the easiest way), there must be a key labeled AV, AUX, or some such thing. Once you press it, and OSD appears on the TV screen giving you several input options :TV, AV, S-Video, PC. Select S-Video. It will tell you no signal if you have not yet diverted screen output of laptop to it.
Use the Fn-Fx key to send the signal to the TV.
This may not be the way to configure the connection for your laptop-TV combination, but I am venturing it anyway in the hope that it will help you solve the problem.

However there are no better sources of information than your laptop manual, and the TV user guide.

Connecting Toshiba Lap Top to NEC LCD TV

From user manual (page 68):
Your computer comes with a built-in display panel, but you can also
connect an external display device to an available video port, as
follows:
❖ An external monitor or projector via the RGB (monitor) port
❖ A TV, VCR, or DVD recorder via the S-video (TV-out) port
Before connecting an external monitor or video projector, configure
your computer for the type of device you are connecting. To do this,
refer to the documentation for your operating system and devices

So you have to use an RGB cable or a S-video cable : your cable should be plugged into 15 pin VGA port in your PC and plug it into a correspondent port in your TV.
Try also S- video and select correponding input in your TV set (Both connection type DO NOT carry sound: use your audio connector from PC to TV audio input.)
Configure your extended screen using your manual instruction:
Once you have connected an external display device, you can
choose to use the internal display only, the external device only, or
both simultaneously. The quickest way to change the display output
settings is to use the display hot key (Fn + F5):
1 Press Fn and F5 simultaneously.
2 While holding down Fn, press F5 repeatedly until the setting
you want takes effect. Briefly pause each time you press the F5
key to allow time for the display to change.
This hot key cycles through the settings in the following order:
❖ Built-in display only
❖ Built-in display and external monitor simultaneously
❖ External monitor only
❖ Built-in display and TV
❖ TV only
