When I turn on my laptop there is an anouncement: The archive "Audio 3D.dll" is lost for the Realtek AC 97 audio driver. That makes that the volume of my laptop does not work.

Are you pressing the key marked Fn at the bottom left of the keyboard, its colour coded green and has to be pressed at the same time as altering the volume.
Hope this helps.

Make sure that you have installed the the internet connection that you are trying to connect to so that the computer will know what network to connect to by going to control panel, clicking on network connections and making sure that the one you are trying to log in is on the list.

E machine 3086

I kept getting the message that my wireless connection needed to be turned on and finally found out how to do that. I went to my control panel and selected HP Wireless Assistant and turned it on. After doing that I saw a button on my laptop light up and discovered that also can turn it on and off.

No sound

To troubleshoot a no sound issue first you must check your device manager to make sure the audio device is installed properly.

To goto the device manager in XP:
Right click my computer>Properties > Hardware Tab > Device manager.

Look for your audio device in the list under "Sound, Video and game controllers". If it has a exclamation mark or question mark beside it you will need to download the most recent drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Next step is to goto
start>programs>accessories>entertainment>volume control
make sure that Wave nor Master Volume is not muted, and both are turned up.

Third step is to check for onboard volume control, there might be volume controls on the system hardware itself.

If you say that external speakers work and not the built in speakers, then the headphone jack that you plug the speakers into may be defective. As it is always detecting something plugged into it and never turns the internal speakers on.
