It's likely that the speakers are blown out if it's quiet and making a crackling sound. To fix that, the speakers can be replaced or you can use external speakers.

Ok, you can purchase a good quality Headphone or a woofer to improve your soun quality.
Otherwise you install Winamp with DFX, that also increase your sound quality as well as volume.

Acer aspire 5535 on vista basic has really low volume is there any way to change this ? ive tried a few things but it dosnt make that much difference

There are often volume buttons or dials below the screen, or on the sides of laptops. Also Vista has a volume control in the bottom right (it looks like a speaker), click on it and drag the slider upwards to make the volume louder.

Poor speaker volume

If the speakers do not have internal amplifiers they won't be very strong.

SOME have the capability of being used either way. Those have a place to plug in a power adapter wall wart to power them.

The internal amp in the laptop just don't have much power to drive passive speakers.

Low sound

are you trying to use speakers that require amplification?

try pluging headphones to the sound port and if they sound good you are using the wrong kind of speakers.

Soundcard acer aspire 5630

Laptop speakers are usually **** so you could spend a lot of time and money on something that won't make a difference. Try plugging in external speakers to the headphone jack. If the sound is good don't bother looking for a fix.
