Feed dogs.

Check the manual for how to engage/raise the feed dogs.

Or, it could be the machine needs cleaning.

Open the bobbin area and the throat plate (plate under the presser foot) and clean with a soft brush or cotton swab.

Feed dogs on Kenmore 158.17810 Sewing material won't advance because the feed dog doesn't lower enough to go below surface of the needleplate even though it does rise and descend appropriately.

You machine most likely has not had a thorough oiling, cleaning, and adjustment for a long time. The old oil dries out, turns to glue, and moving parts no longer move like they should.

If your machine is mechanical (not computerized):

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

It was working now it seems to be frozen the needle part wont move

Singer model no 9022 feeder feet does not move material thread bunges under material

Check that the stitch length is set high enough that the feed dogs will actually advance the fabric. Setting the stitch length too low will cause the machine to basically sew in place.

Also, check that the feed dogs have not been "dropped" to allow darning or free motion quilting. Dropping the feed dogs lowers them so they will not rise above the needleplate and will not grip nor move the fabric.

If your machine is mechanical (not computerized), it may need a good cleaning and oiling. If the old oil has solidified, it could be preventing the feed dogs from moving like they should.

How do I remove the bottom plate off of A Kenmore 1941 sewing machine? I removed all the screws and it still want come off.

1. Slide the front plate towards you. (Don't remove)
2. Lower feed dogs by rotating the hand wheel.
3. Raise the pressure foot or totally remove.
4. Remove the plate under the feed dogs.
5. If you remove the front plate it can be replaced at an angle. (Flat like paper) There are springs under the plate that must catch under the main frame of the sewing machine. Twist the plate until straight and push into position.

Thread in bobbin assembly catching.

Could bee a few things, need a size 14/16 in needles. LONG stitch length. Also make sure you the threads in the top tensions correctly ie: one thread in each disc.

My machine won't stitch, and the tensions seems to be very high, even after adjusting it.

Hi, if your bobbin has thread, check to make sure the bobbin is inserted into the shuttle correctly. If it is loaded correctly, check to see if the needle is able to pull the thread through the throat plate.
If it doesn't have thread, then all your sewing machine will do is make little holes because the bobbin thread is what catches the sewing needle thread to form the lock stitch to sew the material together . Check your manual on the sewing machine for where it is and how to put thread into it.

I have a Kenmore 148.13110 Sewing Machine (1975) I would like to thread the machine, and it seems like the clothes advancing mechanism is not moving/advancing the material, why? Tony

the feed dogs are what pushes on the material from underneath. perhaps they have been lowered ? You do that for free hand or embroidery work,
look for a lever at the back, behind the bobbin area. That's where they are in the janome, which is related to the kenmore somehow; good luck

I have a Kenmore 14 stitch sewing machine that I haven't used in years - when I try to use it, the thread and bobbin thread seems to catch and it won't sew forward

take out the thread and bobbin. run the machine with the pressure foot up and watch the feed dogs (toothy things under the pressure foot that move the material through the machine). if they are not rising up above the plate, then you are sewing multiple stitches in one place and that's what spools up the threads. take the plate over the feed dogs off (it just pops up). get someone to remove the two screws holding the feed dog on (it's a torx #10). the piece the feed dogs was screwed to rides up and down on a short piece of polished rod under it. the rod has gummed up to its bearing. bright light, look for this and get some oil (3in1) on the rod above the bearing and force the feed dog mount up and down until it frees up.

Thread is bunching up unside of the material does not catch bobbin thread

This sounds like the tension is not set properly for what you are sewing.
