Below the left hand side of the screen on the bottom is a hole. Use a paper clip and push it into the hole and hold. Lightly hold. This will reset the 4250 to factory defaults. This is the only thing i can find, short of taking out the battery and trying the reset then.

Occasionally, a unit will need to be reset. This can be due to software errors, firmware updates or simply at the command of technical support staff. A reset either will restart the unit, possibly clearing up any minor errors, or will restore the unit to the settings it was built with. There are three major Magellan units, which utilize different methods to perform this task.

Things You'll Need:
  • A thin object (such as a paper clip)

Using the stylus, tap "Main Menu" and select "View."
Tap "Settings," and select "Restore Factory Settings." You will be given the option to confirm this action. Be sure that you want to reset to the settings that the GPS was built with. This action is irreversible.
Tap "Confirm," and the unit will begin to reset.

Maestro/Roadmate GPS Units
Locate the button marked "Reset" on the left, right or bottom of the unit.
Using a thin object, such as a paper clip, depress the button for two to three seconds. The unit should reset.
If the unit does not reset, immediately press the button again and hold it for up to 10 seconds.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not attempt to perform a factory reset on the Roadmate or Maestro GPS units by holding down both the "Reset" and "Power" buttons. This will cause the GPS unit to format its own hard drive. Doing so will erase all data, including the GPS software, from the unit.

How To Reset Your Magellan Maestro/Roadmate GPS Units

Factory Reset
Do not attempt to perform a factory reset on the Roadmate or Maestro GPS units by holding down both the "Reset" and "Power" buttons. This will cause the GPS unit to format its own hard drive. Doing so will erase all data, including the GPS software, from the unit.
  1. Locate the button marked "Reset" on the left, right or bottom of the unit.
  2. Using a thin object, such as a paper clip, depress the button for two to three seconds. The unit should reset.
  3. If the unit does not reset, immediately press the button again and hold it for up to 10 seconds.
If your Maestro GPS Touch Screen Doesn't work, try performing a Hardware Reset
  1. Remove the Magellan Maestro from the holding cradle.
  2. Hold down the "Power" button on the right side of the device, until the unit powers on.
  3. Straighten the end of a paper clip. Place the paper clip in the reset hole, located on the left side of the GPS unit. Hold down the "Reset" button for 10 seconds. Remove the paper clip.
  4. Turn the Magellan Maestro unit off by holding down the "Power" button. Turn the unit back on again. The device is now reset.

If your Roadmate GPS is locked up, try performing a Hardware Reset
  1. On the RoadMate, press + + - - + -
  2. The "hidden menu" will appear.
  3. From there, you can access the shell and perform a hard reset.

My magellan screen went blank and I can't get it back on even with the cord plugged in......I was told to hit the little reset button on the bottom of the device that that hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

you might have a bad power connector (usb port) but lets assume its ok for now. plug the gps in to its charger and let it alone for a few minutes, then hold the power button for up to 15 seconds. if that doesnt work, keep it plugged in to the charger and then try the reset again holding it for about 10 seconds. if neither of those work, either the power connector is bad or the screen is bad or might just need the ribbon cable reseated.

Touch Screen

You probably just need to reset it.
Magellan Maestro models- the location of reset button is on the left, right, or bottom side inside a small hole. Use an object to apply pressure to depress the reset button. Also try holding the power button down for up to 10 seconds to power the unit off and again holding the power button down for up to 10 seconds to power the unit on.
You may need to update your firmware. Go to this site
http://www.magellangps.com/support/
select your product family, model, and then press the submit button. Firmware updates are located in the updates/upgrade section.

This should solve the problem. Good luck. If this helps, plz rate it fixa. Thank you kindly.
