Grasp the forward most upper handle (hand guard), move it forward, did it click? If no the brake is released. Pull it aft until the brake latches open (clicks), may require some grunt at rear extreme.
Remove the clutch cover, bar and chain. Start the saw, does it still smoke? Yes post back below, no reassemble your saw, ensure the brake is open. Start teh saw. Smoke? If yes post back below.

poulan has white smoke chain does not move until i pull hand guard towards me. still has white smoke is there a separate area to put in oil it saus to mix the gas and oil

  • anteuro Dec 12, 2010

This may be late but it sounds like a brake issue when pulling back the handle and potentially you fueling this properly.
Where it says mix gas and oil it means 2 stoke oil but the chainsaw still needs oil as well. Refer to the manual for guidelines on what oil to use where.

Either the clutch is bad or the kickback brake is on. Make sure the kickback brake is not on by pushing it backward.

What is the poss!ble cause for AC not to fountion

White smoke means the engine is burning oil. Cause of smoke can be worn piston rings and worn valve stem seals. In any event, continuing to drive it that way will run the engine out of lubrication oil. AC not functioning can have many causes such as loss of freon from a leak in the system, burned out clutch on the compressor, failed safety pressure switches ro a burned out relay or a fuse.

The saw runs but chain doesn't turn and it starts t smoke, is the clutch bad ?

Sounds like you haven't read the manual.! Is the chain brake still on.?? The chainsaw has a centrifugal clutch, the more the saw revs, the harder the clutch grips. Sounds like you have the chain brake applied and the clutch is trying to turn the drum which is being held by the brake band

I have a Z24 Cavalier and theres white smoke coming out the exhaust and timing chain makes a lil rattle noise when I first start it in the morning and tends to stall until it reaches the temp of 165ish...

So if it's not consuming oil and you are SURE to fill the radiator to PROVE it's not burning coolant ... then the other suspects are head gasket and .... A puff of smoke upon start-up could be caused by valve guide seals allowing some oil to leak down into the cylinders while the car is parked and not running. This would be pretty common on a nine year old car and should not, in most cases, be cause for concern - See more at: http://community.cartalk.com/discussion/2280708/white-smoke-from-exhaust-upon-cold-start#sthash.05fuptIx.dpuf

If it's blue-white then What you might be seeing is oil burn-off from leaking valve guide seals. The next time you have the oil/filter changed, have a high mileage oil installed. - See more at: http://community.cartalk.com/discussion/2294478/white-smoke-coming-from-the-tail-pipe#sthash.jVo0zDhw.dpuf

The engine starts but the chain does not move even when the throttle is applied and then it starts to smoke the whine does not sound like it has full power either

Can you move the chain by hand? If not, the chain brake may be set or damaged so that the chain cannot move. Is the chain adjusted extremely tight? Is bar oil getting to the chain? The smoke is probably coming from the clutch which is trying to drive the chain. The chain should be adjusted so that the chain just comes up to the lower bar edge, but allows free turning of the chain by hand. Get back to us if you need further help.

Clutch cover smoking

Remove the bar and chain and wash out the clutch internals with spray carburetor cleaner. Clean the side of the engine case, start the engine and watch for oil oozing out of the side port. Clean the bar drive-end small oil passages that go out to the chain groove on each side and clean the entire chain groove. If oil came out of the engine side port ok, then re-assemble the bar and chain, but leave the cover fasteners only finger tight. Tighten the chain so that the chain comes up to the bar, but not so tight that the chain can't be pulled by hand. Tighten the cover fasteners and recheck the chain tension. Make sure the chain teeth cut toward you on the bottom run and that the chain is properly sharpened. Hope this helps!

Chainsaw is smoking excessively when in use

White smoke is usually associated with burning antifreeze in an automobile engine, but in this case, trying to cut wet wood might be suspect. The chain must be properly sharpened and the teeth cut toward you on the bottom run of chain. When the chain is properly adjusted, it should not droop from the lower edge of the bar, but no so tight that you can't turn it by hand. Forcing a poor cutting chain into the kerf will overheat the chain and cause it to become loose quickly. Hope this helps!

White smoke and the smell of burning rubber. I have had lots maintenance of work done to my car. I was starting to notice and smell burn oil. I had a small valve cover leak so I just had the whole...

Bradley,
You have stated two problems. Coming to second first. Smell of burning rubber. in the car rubber is only at two places where it can burn, The tyres, unlikely as you have not commented upon your driving habits. Some people like to rev the engine so much before take off that the tyres go burning for the first few hundred meters. And then there is rubber on the wires and cables. You have to check the wires for any heat while the engine is running.
Coming to the first now. White smoke is generally of unburnt fiel and not oil. Oil alwayd give black smoke and that is the indication you get when the exhaust is giving black smoke. That means that the engine is consuming oil. if it is white then that indicates that the engine is cold and burning more gas/diesel. Is your a diesel vehicle?? But as you say it from under the hood. And that too behind the engine block. May be that the gasket is leaking from somewhere. If you could check the engine oil level for a few days early in the morning before starting the engine. If the level drops and the exhaust tail pipe does not blacken your finger when you rub it in it would mean that the oil is being burnt. Now what I suggest is that with the engine running and hand brakes on, go under the car with hood open and try to locate the source of the smoke. I am sure you would be able to locate it.
Then we talk again.

Engine smoke when chain brake on

It sounds like the band is too tight and the smoke is coming from a burning clutch. You need to get your owners manual and loosen the band before you burn the parts up.
