I just purchased a new Pioneer VSX 517 receiver. Bought it without manual. Having trouble downloading manual on line. I cannot figure out how to adjust the bass and treble levels. When you push the tone button you see bass or tone. What do you do then? I havew tried everything.

Tone (treble/bass) is not vary adjustable, though through deferent settings can probably get the sound.

Having a live-and-kicking VSX-36TX receiver which I love, I feel for you. But the prices have come down dramatically since we bought them. I paid $1200 for mine new. If I needed to replace it I would go with a used one from eBay and consider searching specifically for one that uses the same remote but doesn't have one included. The price would be low.

Lip Sync issues are the nature of the beast. The TV has to process the digital video bitstream a lot more than the receiver has to process the audio so the result can be a gradual lagging of the video behind the sound...

Some receivers have a sound delay control which you can use to try to sync them up. You didn't name yours so one does not know. I don't think this unit has that function. Look in the manual.

I have your solution! We were having trouble with this too. As you may have known, the Pioneer AXD7248 came with a receiver, the Pioneer VSX-D409 / VSX-D509S. Vsx-517 keeps going into overload mode!

Try this:
1. Turn off the receiver.
2. Disconnect all the speakers from the back of the receiver.
3. Turn on the receiver. Does it still go into overload? If so, it may need repair.
4. If not, turn the receiver back off and connect one speaker at a time and turn it back on.

Most likely one of your speaker cables is shorted out causing your receiver to get overloaded. Or, one of the speakers is damaged, having the same effect.
