Read this procedure to possibly fix the remote:

They also sell replacement remotes.
Zoom in on the picture of the original remote provided on the site (or look at your own) and get the actual remote model number.

or check eBay: search for "(model of the device or the remote) remote", check the 'include description' box. Usually cheaper than the vendors.

I have an Yamaha HTR 5730 AV receiver. I have a red and one jack that will fit into the rear of the receiver and other end of the cord fits into my headsit area of my I Pod Touch .... where do I hook it up...

Hi,
Here is what you can do. The cord coming out of the iPod should have a red and white pair of RCA connectors on it. The red one is for the right channel and the white one is for the left channel.
Plug those connectors into the back of the receiver on the "V-Aux" connectors.
Leave the iPod off. Turn the receiver ON. Turn down the volume on the receiver completely.
Turn on the iPod and put some music on at a low volume. Then push the "V-Aux" button at the top section of the remote and turn the volume up on the receiver. You should get sound. The receiver should be set up for Stereo for the test.
Hope this helps,
Good Luck,
Mark

We have to hold the remote control button hard and straight at the reciever for ti to work

The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.

When i turn the tv. on, the volume line appears all the way to zero. if i turn the volume up, it goes up but when i release the up button the volume goes down all by itself.

It sounds like one of the volume down buttons is stuck in the activate position. The same as if you were holding the down volume button continuously. It could be either the volume down button on the TV or the remote. I would try remove the batteries of the remote then adjust the volume by the TV buttons.

If the volume doesn't go back down then the remote is the problem. In order to fix the remote you may need to take it apart. This is normally easy to do just locate any screws that may be holding the remote together. If you don't see any screws then you will need to pry the two sections apart. Separate the circuit board and rubber buttons and clean them both with some rubbing alcohol and reassemble it. If it still has the volume issue you may need to replace it.

If the problem persists with the remote deactivated then it's the volume button located on the TV. That is a little more difficult. You can try wiggling the button or some canned air (used to clean computer keyboards) to blow it clean. However it may need to be disassembled to gain access to the switches for proper cleaning.
Hope this helps.

Volume varies by itself on the Yamaha htr5840 Receiver

The pod that controls the volume knob is either very dirty or needs replaced! (If you remove knob you will see the shaft of the volume pod go into the pod itself) You may try cleaning with a can of high pressure air by spraying short bursts of air in and around the pod area! If that doesent work you will have to replace the volume pod!...Please rate my response! Thank You!
