I am pluging into a blue vga port but it appears to be a graphics card not the mother board. It has Nvidia 6200 graphics.

Thank you for all the info.

If you have a graphics card, ..maybe. I'm stating it this way, because MANY times the term graphics card is misused. The Gateway GM5045E Desktop PC comes with Integrated Graphics.http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/6151/6... Unless you have installed a graphics card, you are using integrated graphics. Integrated graphics is also known as 'OnBoard' graphics. Meaning, 'On the motherBoard'. The GPU is soldered directly to the motherboard. [GPU = Graphics Processing Unit,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU ] You are using Integrated Graphics if you are plugging the monitor into the blue VGA port, on the back of the computer. Diagnosing whether this is the problem requires using a graphics adapter card for a test. (Don't forget to install the drivers for the graphics card) There could be a different problem. One that may not seem logical at first. The Power Supply. The Power Supply may have a weak voltage power rail, and if so will not have enough power to turn the Processor on. Lights will light, fans will spin, or spin a few times, and stop. The Gateway GM5045E comes with a 300 Watt power supply. (On the main menu in the Gateway Support link above, click on - Components, then look under the blue subheading - Power Supplies ) 1) ALL the lights use less than 1 Watt of power. 2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts. 3) A typical Processor uses 51 to 125 Watts of power. This is why lights may light, and fans may spin, but the computer doesn't work. No Processor running. [ The Gateway GM5045E comes with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ processor. Operating at maximum capability, the 3800+ can use up to 89 Watts ] Do you wish to test the power supply voltages? Do you have a multimeter, or a power supply tester? (An affordable multimeter can be purchased for around $10 to $12. An auto parts store is One example of where to purchase. An affordable power supply tester is around $20 ) You'll find the leading cause of computer failure, leads to power supply failure. Most of the time the owner neglects to clean the inside of the computer, as well as the power supply, on a regular basis. Pre-built computer manufacturers also have the tendency to install cheap quality power supply's. Saves them money. Gateway is no exception. The power supply options offered for the GM5045E are made by Bestec, or Delta, or HiPro.

Hook a spare monitor to the video output, if picture okay the LCD panel display will need to be replaced, go to www.ebay.com type make and model of laptop, refine search to screen. But if both show the same symptom it is the video graphics card.

That more than likely means the video (graphics) card inside the computer is bad. The monitor seems to be ok if it is displaying No Input Signal. Isolate the problem by connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it t the computer. If the Borrowed Monitor displays the No Input Signal then your video card inside the computer is bad. If the Borrowed Monitor works and displays your desktop icons, then your original monitor is bad and the video card is ok.

My monitor is on but there does not appear to be any graphics. The CPU is also on too. The monitor keeps showing "check signal cabel"

The ideal way is to crros check to see if the PC or the monitor is the suspected fault. So connect an external monitor to your PC and if this works OK then the PC is cleared. Now check the monitor to confirm. If not there are errors in the signal processing section- the point where the input signal from the PC has to be processed. Possible failure of the input IC.
If however the PC does not output it is failure of the graphics card and must be substituted to confirm and replace.

Why do i have a blue line down my laptop screen?

your screen may have a loose connection between the hinge and the screen or the screen was damaged. Replacing a screen through a manufacturer is hundreds of dollars around $300 to be specific. But you can find a local place that will do it for cheaper. I own a local computer repair business that can usually to it for $200

My laptop ( sony viao laptop) fell and now once turned on I have a black screen all lights and sounds are good. Could this be a led disconnect problem or a video card situation. What type of video card...

Unlikely to be a vga cable loose, but you can check by removing the switch panel cover and the screen to check it is still firmly housed.

test the laptop first in an external monitor, if you get an image, then the graphics chip is still ok

This then points to the screen, may appear undamaged, closer inspection with a torch, shone through the back of it will show any cracks you do not see straight away.

If the screen will not light up, fault is probably with a damaged backlight or inverter, you are then looking at a new (or 2nd hand) screen

I suspect that my video card is going bad. It is

To check if the video card is faulty, connect an external monitor to the video port, power up the monitor first and then the laptop.
The video data should automatically divert to the external monitor, if you see a normal Windows image on the external monitor, then the video card is OK and the fault is the LCD screen and or backlight.
If you don't get any images then video card is probably faulty and because it is built-in on the motherboard it cannot be replaced or repaired.
You could replace the motherboard but this might not be cost effective.

No any video signal from the video card

When you power on your computer do you hear any system beeps from the PC speaker? When the computer is turned on it will run through a system check and one of the things it checks for is the presence of a working video card. One beep typically means everything checked out ok and your graphics card is working and it will continue to boot. If you are getting past that initial test I would next look at the monitor and see if it can handle the signal that is being sent to it. Are you not getting any of the boot up text display?
