It takes Intel Pentium 4 CPU, socket 478 with a maximum FSB of 533mhz. An Intel CPU that matches those specs should work.

3.06 GHz Pentium 4  with Northwood core. Newer ones will not be recognized by the BIOS.

HOW MANY TYPES OF MEMORY SECTOR IN MOTHER BOARD

1) The Processor has the fastest memory. It is the Cache.
(L1, L2, and for some Processors, L3)
Operates at the same frequency rate ('Speed'), as the Processor.

It is a small memory area for the Processor.

2) Next is the Ram Memory. Random Access Memory.
Ram memory typically operates at HALF of the Processor's FSB.
It is the second fastest memory on the motherboard.

3) Next after the Ram Memory is the Harddrive.
Harddrive's have a Buffer.
Buffer is a Cache for a Harddrive. A small memory area.
The Harddrive is the third fastest memory.

What is the largest and fastest hard drive that will run on the Intel 845PE motherboard?

That motherboard is so old I couldn't find any information about it except that it uses a Pentium 4 processor and has an AGP 4x slot. The processor itself is an immediate bottleneck and since you have an AGP slot, you most definitely are using ATA and not SATA.

To make use of the, "largest" and, "fastest" hard-drive(s), you would have to buy yourself an X58 motherboard with an i7 processor. Which I doubt you want to dish out that sort of money.

So instead, this is perhaps the fastest and the largest hard-drive your computer will be able to make use of:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136111

If you want to view all available hard-drives, visit this website. Afterward navigate to Computer Hardware>Hard Drives. Now on the left select, "Internal Hard Drives." Now on the left select, "IDE Ultra ATA100" located under, "Interface."

Those are the only hard drives your system can use, and out of those I already showed you the fastest one.

Let me know if I can help you further or if I can explain anything I mentioned above in more detail. I'm sorry you can't use the latest and greatest, however those are designed for the fastest systems on the market.

Your motherboard supports a slot A Athlon.

The fastest looks like up to 1Ghz as according to CPU World:

Fastest socket A processor?

i think you will find that you are in fact using the fastest speed processor for the socket 'A' type of motherboard as AMD has changed to socket 754 or 939 for dual core processors. You can clock the speed a little in the bios, if you go to the peocessor section in the bios and look at the clock speed probably set at 133MHZ you can move it up 1 increment at a time, eg 134MHZ and keep trying until the pc wont boot up, at which point you will have to reset the cmos settings JBAT1 terminal and then set it again to the fastest you got it to before it wouldnt boot.
