The latest version is v2.65. Version 2.46 added some corrections for resume playback, so we know they had some focus on it's operation in this version. Pioneer may have messed the function up with later releases. You might try and downgrade the version to see if it is related specifically to later software releases. Here is a URL to v2.46: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/ephox/StaticFiles/PUSA/Files/BDP-09FD/BDP_09FD_Ver246.zip

Download it and install it. If the function then works correctly, you know the cause... newer software has a bug. It this case, the only thing you can do is contact Pioneer and inform them of the bug. With luck, they will correct the problem in the next software release.

I note that the latest firmware update for the Pioneer BDP-09FD is listed as version 265, is this the version you are enjoying?

I also note that, according to the manual, for audio CD's and audio files, playback 'resumes' from the beginning of the track or file, not where you actually pressed Stop.

Also, if Stop is pressed twice, the resume function is canceled.

Additionally:

The resume playback function is canceled automatically in the
following cases:
– When the disc tray is opened.
– When the file list window is switched.
– When the power is turned off. (For BDs and DVDs this does
not cancel the resume playback function.)

• The resume playback function cannot be used for some discs.
These last bon mots are my favorite: like pioneer is reserving the right for resume to not work at any time for any reason.

My suggestion for you is to be certain you are tapping Stop only once, briefly in order to make use of the resume function. And also, that perhaps a factory reset wouldn't hurt, just in case the brain inside has become a little confused.

Reset with these steps:

  1. Check that the player’s power is turned on.
  2. When a disc is playing, press STOP to stop playback.
  3. Eject the disc from the player.
  4. While pressing STOP, press STANDBY/ON. (Operate using the buttons on the player’s front panel.)
I hope that helps.

According to pioneer web site information you must reinstall the update. Something may not have finished correctly.

The manual didnt state cdr or dvd r but there was a way to finish the sequence, I dont have it in front of me. If you dont have your manual I would go to the pioneer website and just reverify what to do after the update. I was reading something about a possible usb flash update that may be the way to go.

My sharp blu ray player no longer plays blu rays

If it plays CDs and DVDs but not BluRays at all, then the blue laser is burned out. CDs and DVDs use a different laser. A needed firmware update would not prevent it from reading a BluRay.

Standard DVDSs are read by a red laser while blue ray DVDs are read by a blue laser (hence the name). The blue laser diode is likely to be faulty and therefore standard dvds work but blue ray dvds do not. This is not an easily obtainable or replaceable part.

All Blu Ray players that I have dealt with are what is termed "backwards compatible" which means they play Blu Ray, standard DVDs,music CDs,MP3s,recorded CDs and DVDs, etc. yours should have no problem reading and playing back your "normal" DVDs. Good luck !
