Epson 1280 -alternating green red flashing lights

I think my 1280 printer is doomed.  I called Epson and they want me to bring it in to a service place. But I am not sure if the printer is worth paying for repairs given its age.  Looking for a last ditch solution before I add it to the landfill.
Thank you --jk

No, the ink is not out. The alternating flashing lights is another kind of error message. The Epson phone help folks say I have to bring it into a service place.

These printers are a lot of money, you would be better off takeing it in for repair, I would not let mine go so fast. I dont know what you use it for but I use mine for printing t-shits, epson are good printers. The ink is out when you get green and red lights.

You could use it for a table top computer archeological relic. the flashing lights will attract peoples attention, and start conversations at parties.

A flashing green on printer light generally means its waiting for a command for instance, push print, stop etc... also check that the pause button has not been pushed. if so depress again to release printing process

I have a epson c42 printer and both red and green lights are flashing

Are they flashing alternately? If so this is a service error and it needs the waste ink counter resetting.

Green light out both red lights flashing alternately

If the lights are flashing alternately then this is the Service Maintenance request by the printer. Usually this is related to the ink pads. You will need to change the ink pads and use a SSC utility.

Alternating flashing lights - power (green) & ink (red)

Reasonably sure this means your printer is requesting a service (ie: waste pads need replacing).

You can get this resolved by taking it to an Epson service center/tech or you can deal with the problem yourself by taking the printer apart to wash out/replace the pads yourself...

A simpler option that many people prefer is to fit an external waste ink tank. This resource is constantly updated with any 1280/1290 related info on the subject so you should be able to get yourself back up and running from there:

The only thing I would say is that using a bottle as shown in the Ink Republic guide is perhaps a no-no as it can promote backflow (due to the height the tube reaches) as well as being rather easy to fall/knock over.

Hope that helps...

Epson C48 red and green lights flashing alternately

Messrs Epson told me that I needed to either pay a service centre lots of Money for them to fix the problem and that "For Health and safety reasons" they will not tell me what to do.
That left me with the option of either paying through the nose the equivalent cost of a new printer to a service centre to fix my printer or to send my perfectly functional printer to a landfill and buy a new one.
However, there is a third way....
I purchased a service manaul from a website Mr Google found for me. I then found out about the Epson firmware counter that counts the number of ink dribbles that have fallen into the printers Nappy(Diaper). Mr Google then found somewhere else where I can download the utility to reset the counter. This I did, and in one miinute counter was reset and hey presto the printer works again.
All that remans is for me to curse Epson for building in a deliberate end of life "Time Bomb" into the printer firmware.
