Question about Televison & Video
I have a Gateway GTW-P50M203 plasma tv. It started blinking when first turned on. Blinking would last a few minutes then clear up. Then blinking lasted 20 mins and then clear up. Now just blinks and never clears up. Any ideas?

Sorry to tell you a common problem with these sets. It is a bad capacitor in the main power supply.. There are really about three of them that go bad from time to time to cause this problem... If your not a tech you should find an authorized repair facility as a non authorized is not going to know what to do to fix it and it will most likly cost you double to repair. Good luck and let us know how you got it fixed.

First, Have your tv 's circuitry be resoldered. this might be a case of loose contacts particularly along the crt circuitry. the longer you operate the unit at this condition, the faster you are counting the possibility of shortening the lifespan of your tube. 9 years is quite a young age for a unit which has an average of 18years.
response is highly appreciated.

Had the same problem... drove me nuts... I figured what the hell!!! I started pulling boards out, and on the main power board I dicovered a visual indication that one of the main capacitors "M105k" took a ****. Ordered it for $1.29... presto, works like a charm! I had to remove both relays and manually rig them to the on position for troubleshooting purposes. I'm replacing them with new ones. Let me know if this helps!

If your set was manufactured around July 2005, you may need a firmware upgrade to solve this issue. On the Sony website you can enter your model # and serial # to see if you TV is affected. If so, it is easy to have done and may be free from Sony. It sounds like the issue they described in the writeup on the required formware update. I had mine done within few months of when i bought it (purchased in Dec 2005) and it has been working flawlessly since.
