The battery discharges once the computer has started. The battery is new and i've run it throught about three charge cycles to calibrate it. The battery status says "online, discharging." I can run the laptop on just AC power with the cord, and i can run it off the battery, but when i have the laptop plugged in with the battery, it discharges and eventually shuts down. Please help! on new cars never pull the cables off while its running, it can fry your computer, charge the battery (i've gotten both bad batteries and alternators from parts stores) have the battery LOAD checked, if one cell is dead,, its never going to charge correctly, and any parts store can do this for you,, once its charged, start the car,, you should have a reading o f `13.5 to 14.5 on the battery posts, if not the alt isn't working, Make sure every single connection is clean, even where the battery grounds against the motor and car body itself,
The C1033 does NOT charge batteries. By plugging it into the computer you've actually drained the batteries faster since the camera has to spend juice communicating with the computer (even if only to say it has nothing to say). Put in a fresh set of batteries, and next time don't leave it connected to your computer.
1998 to 2002 have problem with plug to voltage regulator/rectifier which is under seat. connectors in plug overheat and bike stops charging the battery. you will see if connectors have been hot and will need to be replaced if they have. once replaced check bike charging with multimeter at battery, should make 13.5 - to 14.5 volts just above idle. if not will need to test stator and regulator.
lead acid (auto) type batteries cannot be left in a discharged state very long without damage ...if they have been discharged awhile then they will recharge but at greatly refuced capacity ... sometimes they can be recovered but usually its perminant damage .. even if the batteries can be saved it would still take several hours to recharge ...so leaving it on a charger overnight will show you if its a lost cause or not ...you can have the batteries "load tested" usuallly at auto parts stores for free .....they should be fully charged first to save time ...lead acid batteries should always be kept in a state of full charge ...never store them in a discharged condition or allow them to selff discharge (a discharged battery will freeze over the winter) ... charging once a month should keep them healthy .. more often in a car since the computer draws current all the time .. if you have a regulated charger then you can leave it connected all the time for storage ...high resistance battery connectios will have the same effect .. so remove and clean the battery terminals to eliminagte that possibility ... you can have your alternator tested at most auto parts stores ..usually free .. if you have maintainable batteries then check the water level . dont over fill .. use distilled water ...if your charging systems are ok then it sounds like you need new batteries ...
Thanks for using FixYa. Open hood and look for disconnected spark-plug wires or
vacuum lines. Corrosion at battery terminal will also prevent car from
starting. Clean battery cable ends and battery terminal with wire brush or
water and rag and tighten battery cable ends. And make sure the connections on battery are fine.
Also check the
fuse box for blown fuses & fuel pump relay. Check that if there is spark and starter motor is getting any power. Also check the output of the battery. You'll need to check all these with a multimeter.
Discharged or dead battery is one of the possible reasons for a car not to start. Very common is the situation when we forget to turn the lights off overnight (the dome light, for example), which causes the battery to drain. In this case when attempting to start a car, all you will probably hear will be a clicking noise - there won't be enough power to turn the starter. Here is the simple way to check if the battery is discharged: Turn the ignition on. With the engine off, turn the windshield wipers on. If they move way too slow, much slower than usual, the battery is probably discharged. Also look at the dashboard lights - if they appear very dim, the battery is probably discharged. If the battery is relatively new, it can be recharged. All you need to do is to boost your car and let the engine run for a while to charge the battery. However if your battery is more than three-four years old, you will probably need to buy a new one. Sometimes, an old battery may even die with no apparent reason, even if the day before it was OK.

If the computer will run on battery alone, and you cannot fully charge the battery, it's probably time for a new battery. The life expectancy is 2-3 years if treated right. Some people get a lot more life than others. Here's a suggestion: when you run your computer, let the battery run fully down at least once a month. Do not leave it plugged in to line power all the time. Do not keep charging it when it is only a little bit discharged.
how long have you had your laptop? the toshiba laptop battery can be normal used in 400-500 cycles, that means normal in 2 years. if the age is over 2 years, the battery declines day by day. get a new one if it is unnormal
