Whirlpool cabrio washing machine doesn't spin

Try to turn the drum by hand, if it hard to turn, there may be something stuck underneath spin basket. If it does turn freely but makes a loud growling sound, you probably have a bad bearing. You should notice black oil and water mixture at bottom of washer, on the rotor. It will usually throw a f51 error code. This unit has service bulletin on this problem.

Have you checked the REAR whell bearings? Sometimes even when the noise appears to come from the front, the rear bearing can be the ones. Happende to me in my older Spirit R/T. By spinning the rear Wheel with an old impulsor motor in a Wheel balancing/alignment shop, the technician showed me that it wasn't a front drive problema, but rear bearings getting some moisture inside and going bad. It made a worse glowl when turning to one side. Amclaussen.

I have a Kenmore Elite washer. It will not spin on it's own. If I turn the tub and close the lid I can get it to go through the spin cycle.

More than likely your clutch/brake for your washtub transmission is going out/is out. A way to check it in washing machines is to have it run up to full speed or near full speed, wet your hands, and then cup your hand around the very top of the rotating washtub with only your 4 fingers inside the washtub, thumb outside on the non rotating part of the washtub and slowly attempt to stop the tub from spinning by gripping it. Generally if your clutch/brake is going out you'll be able to significantly slow or even stop the washtub from spinning before your fingers get too warm from friction. Make absolutely sure your fingers at the very least are wet, this reduces friction to your fingers without which could burn your fingers.

Fixing the clutch is not for anyone but very mechanically inclined and professionals. If the clutch is bad, take it to a qualified repairman.

Water level sensor in an Amana LWA65AW Washer?

What likely happened is when you replaced the belt you may have disconnected the hose to the water level switch. It is (usually) a clear hose that attaches to the side of the washtub and goes to an air pressure switch that senses the water level to tell the machine to shut the water off and go into agitate mode.

If the hose is not disconnected you may either have a bad water level switch, it may have been accidentally unplugged electrically when replacing the belt, or there is a hole in the hose, connection to the washtub or on the switch.

Frigidaire washing machine making big noise during spinning

Most likely this will be the drum bearings.
Quite often bearing failure is due to a faulty drum shaft seal which allows a small amount of water through and in to the bearings. The bearings then start to rust, which then accelerates the wear on the bearings.

Replacing the bearings needs well above average DIY skills to do, so unless you feel confident to tackle the job, can get hold of a tech manual, and can get hold of new bearings, it's time to call an engineer.

When my washer goes into fast spin it is very loud could it be a bearing?

If it sounds like it's growling or rumbling it's definitely the bearing.
The rear shell of the tub which includes the bearing will need to be replaced since the bearing is not serviceable on it's own.
It's going to get worse until it fails completely.
In the future, make sure you are using HE (high efficiency) detergent. About 2 tablespoons for a full load is enough.

Slow to spin and making a loud noise.

Control boards don't growl, the fry out and die. Sounds like a drive train problem to me. If it's a front load machine, the spindle/bearing assy. has gone to washer heaven. If it's a top load machine... could be the transmission, brake/clutch assy. or the tub bearings. In either case, if it's less than 5 years old, the drive system will be warrantied through the manufacturer. If you could provide a make and model number, I could narrow this down to a fine point.
