I'm guessing you took it apart because it stopped pumping water. You shouldn't waste your time putting it back together because it still won't pump. These are the only machine my store will not work on. It is built to fail after 6-8 uses and they all fail. Replace it with a Hoover.
Sounds like either the pump quit or plugged, or if you here pump nozzles clogged. Try 2 cups of vinegar and water to help clean out
pump and nozzles. Let stand 1/2 hour, then shake it up with mixture in it, do this a few times then try and run mixture through machine

It sounds like the handle release lever is bad if the unit will not stand up. It's common when those units get a little older. It is unlikely you'll need the rear handle assembly (the part with the filter housing) but it does happen. Inspect the latch on the handle assembly to make sure it's not too worn to know for sure. Chances are, the handle release lever is just spent. Here's the part you're looking for:
As long as you're into it the belts and roller are always a great investment. Replacing them will make it clean like new again. I'll include the links for those parts as well.
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC18. If the stabiliser doesn't seem to be locking the machine upright, I'd encourage you to get in touch with us directly, as we'd appreciate the opportunity to provide further assistance.
You can reach us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US) - it will be useful if you can have the machine to hand when you call.
tip unit back to lift brushes off floor and roll forward until over carpet edge. tip back unit to sit flush on carpet and unlock handle so it swings freely. now pull backwards ith finger on spray trigger. that's how it works, not by pushing forwad.
Actually, that is the purpose of that filter. These filters keep the dirt, and debris from entering the vacuum motor, making the repair cost much higher. You can rinse this filter, let it dry and use it again. That filter is also inexpensive, so that you are encouraged to replace it often, But I have included a link to your owner's manual if you need anything else.. or contact me and I will try to help more.
you can wash that sponge filter by hand but you must let it dry compleatly before putting it back in the machine, I found a filter pack for the lift off vacume at walmart, make sure teh bottom filter is clean as well. the lift off vacume has 3 filters there is one filter in the tray under the dirt cup, one in the top cup, and the hepa filter in the back the 2 foam filters must be clean or you can have reduced suction, the lift off vacume I have I found thrown away because they never cleaned it outthe brush was dirty and full of strings the belt was worn, the hose under the vacume was full and stopped up the hose in the back was compleatly stopped up all filters were compleatly clogged, and the hepa filter was missing entirely. Not to insult you or anyone but i've found that a lot of people are jsut to lazy to clean their vacume out it fills up with dirt they throw it away and get a new one, i've gottten many like new vacumes for this reason, this bissell is working like brand new now. and I just replaced the belt and all filters in it saving me approx. 150.00 for a new one
