Question about Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder VCR

Open Question

Magnavox ZV427MG9 -- DVD tray won't open. Have been recording VHS tapes to DVD successfully. Recorded 4 segments onto one DVD, now the DVD tray won't open, can't even switch source from VHS to DVD to get menu up. Can't use the paperclip trick -- no hole in DVD cover. I'm stuck! Suggestions?

I got the solution to my own question by calling Magnavox customer support. They were terrific. Asked if I had a "timer record" event set, which I did (though it was set for a prior day of the week). They told me to press "Timer" to turn it off, and then I could access DVD menu. Seems obvious when you think about it, but what a frustration it was until they gave me this tip! Thanks, Magnavox!

Ensure that your source is correct. L1 is the rear inputs and L2 is the front inputs. If you have it set to L2 then you have no information from the TV getting to the recorder.

SOURCE: I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9. I follow all

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.

SOURCE: I have a Magnavox DVD

You can probably download the pdf of the manual for this model from the following site:

http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/magnavox/zv427mg9.html

The document should feature a picture of the unit. This is for the ZV427MG9 model ONLY.

I hope this helps somewhat.

VHS tape will not eject and unit shuts down

It's not loading correctly. You need to open the cover (unplug first) and get familiar with the loading mechanism. You can get the tape out by rotating the loading motor wheel.

How do I finalize my disk once I have finished recording from VHS tape. How do I get the finalize to light up on menu on screen?

If they are +RW discs they cant be finalized and can only be played on +RW compatible players. Use +R, -R or -RW if you need a wider compatibility (DVD-VIDEO). Finalizing is quite easy following directions in the manual.

The VCR has at least four "heads" two are for 2 hr and two for 6 hour (sp and slp)

It is most likely one of the heads used in the SLP mode is slightly blocked with tape debris--heads need to be manually cleaned in the right way.
