Question about Kenmore 24 in. 16472 / 16474 / 16479 Built-in Dishwasher

We replaced the heating element and control board

We replaced the heating element and control board in our Kenmore 16479 dishwasher. After two successful cycles, we now have no power to the LED and the dishwasher will not start. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

First off check to make sure you have incoming power, that the circuit breaker is not tripped or fuse blown, the outlet it is connected to has power, no switch that controls that is off.

If power is going to the dishwasher the most common reason for the unit to be dead like this would be the thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is a device that clips on to the control board you just replaced. It senses the temperature of the board and trips if it gets too hot. My guess is that it either is not clipped on to the new board in the right spot or one of the wire connections to the board or this fuse is not tight and creating enough heat to trip it.

You will need to replace this fuse if it is bad, it will come with new wires for it. Be sure to install the new wires, the kit will have instructions.

Check and click this link for tips: Front panel

Now check the voltage to the heating element from the control panel and if this is present the element has failed.
If not the control board is a suspect. check the wiring harness and connectors.

Dishwasher won't run. Replaced door latch and timer/selector unit. Into this POS for over 200 bucks right now, with nil result. Any other ideas? Clean light comes on so power is getting through it.

If it's KitchenAid or Whirlpool or Kenmore, and your clean light BLINKS and the heating element inside is ROUND - there is a problem with your control board and the element. There is a kit containing both, for the price of the heating element alone.
This might be the part you need

Heating Element Won't Turn Off

Ok, this is a control fault that may be corrected by shutting the power off for 5 minutes. this will reset the chip set on the control board. plug the unit back into the socket after the 5 minute ait and check to see if the element is still on. If so, replace the control board.

Exactly, if the heater is not defective, please do not replace it. I am aware that the owners manual says that if you have the clean light to flash then the heating element may be defective. More times than not the heating element is not defective but the controls can be reset and you can send the unit through a diagnostic test to find out what may be defective.

Dishwasher isn't heating and dishes are always still wet at end of cycle

hi,

could be a few things, control board, heating element, sensors. look at the heating element, (the thin dark tube under the bottom rack) if it looks broken or caked up with calcium it may need to be replaced. if it looks ok start the wash cycle and let it run for a minute, then open the door and tap it very lightly and quickly with your finger to see if it's getting warm, if it’s not hot it could be a board/wiring/sensor problem. , if it’s in warranty contact the manufacturer if not contact a sears or a local appliance repair company
