Question about Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

My Dyson 14 Animal seems to not have the suction

My Dyson 17 Animal seems to not have the suction it used to, particularly when attachments are attached to the wand. When I attach the stair cleaner, I can feel a little suction, but the brushes don't spin. I've taken the vacuum apart and cleaned it. I've even taken the tool apart and cleaned it. When that didn't work, I bought a new attachment, but even that doesn't work.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Firstly check that the brush bar control on the cleaner head is in the correct position. You may have switched the brush bar off the last time you used it or the dial may hav got knocked when you vacuumed under some low furniture.

If this is in the correct position but the brush bar is still not turning, switch the machine off and remove the soleplate by turning the 3 fasteners on the base of the machine and checking for blockages and remove any threads or hairs around the brush bar.

I would recommend washing the filter if it hasnt been done for a while.

You may find it useful to follow the blockage procedure and filter washing instructions in your user guide, however if you no longer have this available you download a replacement for free via the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

I hope that this information is useful to you.

Kind regards
Darran

Why has the hose on my dyson has lost suction?

It's most likey got a split in the hose, seperate the wand from the hose and depress the lever to remove from the rear and exend the hose inspecting in between the reinforcement rings. Splits can occur anywhere but are particularly prevelant at the plastic attachment ends

A Dyson dc 17 Animal and the wand/hose has lost suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose assembly from the machine, switch it on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its good here, then you know that the wand handle is blocked.

My dyson 17 animal started shutting itself off today.I cleaned all out, but it has almost no suction when upright, none with tho hose

This video is for replacing the clutch and belts, but you can also use this video to dis-assemble and reassemble to take out hose underneath to inspect for damage. If there's a hole in the hose, you may be losing suction.

My Dyson Animal 14 is not producing enough suction to pick up dirt. What should I do?

Check for an obstruction. There are several cleanout ports built in to make this easier.

Dyson Animal, lost suction and bypass valve seems to be loose

Dear terrygivens, 2-17-2009 4:12am EST (USA)

Most suction problems are caused by a clog from picking up something you probably didn't see or if you have pets an accumulation of pet hairs!

To clear it out take a metal coat hanger and unbend it til it's straight, then bend the end and tape it so when you push it through to unclog your vac it doesn't rip the hose.

Push the coat hanger in from the bottom brush area through the opening where the suction is. Also push it in and out anywhere else you can......You'll probably find something clogged....keep working it til it loosens and intermittently turn on the suction.

If you have a second vac with a hose, use that hose for suction on the clogged vac!

This should do it!

Dyson Animal hose collapses when using attachment hose

You have a clog in either your hose or your wand. You need to take off the wand and hose and inspect them.
