Question about Sony STR-DE545 Receiver

1 Answer

The center channel on my Sony STR-DE 545 occasionally cuts out. It can happen with either the cable settop box or the Bluray player as the audio source. In either case, I use a digital optical audio input to the STR-DE 545. I've found that I can usually get the center channel to come back by turning the amp or the settop box or Bluray off and on again. However, the most reliable way to get it to come back is to unplug the digital optical cable and then plug it back in. Not really acceptable thought since it's a hassle to climb behind the equipment in the middle of a movie. Any suggestions for a permanent fix other than replacing the amp?

I'll try this next time it happens and let you know. However, if it's a cold solder joint, would it make sense that I can get it to work by unplugging and plugging back in the digital optical audio cable? This has been working without even touching the amp, I can unplug/plug the optical audio at the settop box and it resets the audio.

It sounds like a cold solder joint, can you lightly tap on all sides and top and bottom the amp when it does this and see if this makes it operate again,if so then I would say you have a loose connection or cold solder joint inside the unit

YES.possibly because if there are bad solder connections and just enough circuit board movement/vibration could "self-heal" the problem for a time in this area ,also plugging in and unplugging will in some cases create a very minute(small arc) to actually temporarilly weld this connection, then enough vibration will re-break this electrical connection again,

yes,by unplugging and plugging the unit back in,your creating small surge voltage/healing transients, the same as small arcs, try it and let me know the outcome, you wont hurt the system this way,but try to get this repaired anyway, there are M.O.V.'s and Zener diodes in the circuitry to protect these kind of surges/overvoltage transients..thank you .daniel

How do you connect sony str-de 698 fm receiver to television, cable box and cd player

Connect it's two audio plugs, likely to be coloured red and white, to corresponding sockets on any device that has them and select that input on the device. You should then hear your tuner.
Depending on FM signal strength where you live you may need an aerial, some is always better than none.

I have a sony str de-475 amplifier and the centre speaker stops working after about a minute. leave amp powered down for a while and it works again but only for about a minute

Try replacing the center speaker with one of the left or right speaker and run it for sometime ( do not connect the center speaker to any other channel ). If the system does not cut off the center speaker connection this way indicates a short in your center speaker.
But with the L/R speaker if the system still stops working you have a hardware problem and will need professional help to fix. 5.1 amps are complicated and difficult to access even for an experienced technician.

STR-DE835. White noise coming ferom right rear speaker when DVDs are played. Twise the word "PROTECT" has been displayed.

IF any other source plays fine with the RR speaker, and IF it only happens with the DVD player and IF you're using the 5.1 analog audio feeds to the STR, maybe the audio on that channel is **** from the player. You could prove that by temporarily swapping the RR input from the DVD to any other channel input and test it at a medium level.

If it stays with the DVD RR output, the player or the cable would be suspect. Swap in a different cable and make sure it is not routed uniquely near any sources of magnetic fields, motors, UV or track lights, etc.

---

If you're using digital input all that advice was a waste of time to create as there is nothing external to the chipset that could affect one input channel. Try a different digital input on the STR.

I have connected my Charter HDTV settop box to the strdh700 in the 'sat in' hdmi connection, then connected the 'out' hdmi to my sony bravia tv and the signal isn't getting there. any suggestions?

If you're not getting the audio signal, please select the Audio for HDMI to TV+AMP in Menu display. If you're not getting the videos, please check if the TV is HD ready and supports 1080p signals. Also check if the connections are firm and secure and you selected the correct input on both Receiver and TV. Please try connect the Settop box to different HDMI port of the receiver and try. You can also try connecting the Set top box to tv directly and check if its working. If its working fine directly with the TV, you may try to replace the cable and try else the receiver may require service

Sony STR-DA5000ES 7.1 Receiver

its for digital decoding of the sound source. You need to connect a digital cable (ie optical) from the DVD player to the optical input in the receiver. The receiver should then decode the source into multichannel components ie 5 channels for example
