Archos 404 could not start

When I turn Archos 404 on, I got these information on screen.

Recovery (code 2)
System is damaged. Would you like to recover it?
No
Repair
Format disk

Option no does nothing
When I choose option Repair or Format disk, it jump into
Recovery
Setting up operating system..

then it hangs there forever until the battery is empty.

Can you tell me what I have to do?

It sounds like the partition that hold the recovery files has got damaged,i suggest you talk to the manufacturer or supplier on how to overcome this problem,if it was a pc i would say format hard drive & re-install the software but its not .

HP Pavilion Recovery Partition
Accessing the recovery partition on your HP Pavilion laptop allows you to restore your computer to speed it up, eliminate a virus or repair your Windows operating system.
The Recovery Manager program makes it possible to restore your laptop to its settings as of a previous date or restore your computer to its original factory settings, which will erase all of your installed programs and personal data.
Using the recovery partition allows you to bypass the hassle of keeping track of recovery discs, which could be damaged in storage, rendering them useless when you need them.

Turn on or restart your HP Pavilion laptop.
Press "F11" when the "Press <F11> for recovery" message appears during the HP Pavilion boot process.
Select "Recovery Manager" from your list of recovery options and press "Enter."

in advanced option you will find an option for Destructive Recovery.. click that

If you are not able to run the recovery on the computer as above then you will need no use a set of recovery cds..... if you dont have them you can get it from HP..

The HP Recovery Partition that comes pre-installed on most new HPs is like built-in insurance if your system becomes unstable or fails.
If the problem is severe enough, you may not be able to start the HP Desktop Recovery Manager from Windows but you can start it manually by following the steps below.

Disconnect all peripheral devices and power on the computer.
Press the F11 key after the computer first powers on to start the HP Recovery Manager.

Follow the on-screen instructions to back up recoverable files on the hard drive to an external drive or media.
Continue following the instructions to recover the hard drive to its original factory condition.

Trying to restore back to factory settings


System Recovery
When you've tried other methods of repairing your
system software (like System Restore or Application
Recovery), you may want to use the Compaq System
Recovery program as a last resort to reinstall the software.
When necessary, you can reinstall the operating system and
the application software that was originally installed on the
PC at the factory by using the System Recovery program.
WARNING: The Compaq System Recovery
program will delete any data or programs
that you installed after purchase. Be sure to
back up any data that you want to keep onto
a removable disc.
The System Recovery program uses a special recovery
partition on the hard disk drive that stores an image of the
original software.
NOTE: The System Recovery image is in a partition area
of the hard disk drive and takes up part of the total drive
space. This disk space is not usually available for your use.
In the unlikely event that you replace the hard disk drive,
or somehow damage the data in the special recovery
partition on the hard disk drive, use recovery discs to
reinstall the operating system and software on the hard disk
drive. See "System Recovery Using Recovery Discs."
Make your own recovery discs (CDs or DVDs) before you
need them; see "Creating Recovery CDs/DVDs." You can
also make the Recovery Tools CD. This CD contains utilities
that allow you to make changes to your hard disk drive; see
"Using the Recovery Tools CD."
Starting System Recovery
if the PC Is Responding
1 Turn off the PC. Disconnect all peripheral devices from
the PC except the monitor, the keyboard, and the mouse.
Turn on the PC.
2 Click Start on the taskbar, choose All Programs,
choose PC Help & Tools, and then click Compaq
System Recovery.
3 Wait until the System Recovery window appears asking
Do you really want to start System Recovery?
4 Click Yes to continue with the recovery process. If you
created recovery discs, you may be directed to insert
recovery disc #1. If the Recovery disc is a DVD, be sure
to put the disc in a DVD drive.
5 The PC starts the recovery; wait for the onscreen
instructions to display, and then follow those instructions.
6 Complete the PC startup, finish the registration process,
and wait until you see the desktop. Then, turn off the PC,
reconnect all peripheral devices, and then turn on the PC.
Starting System Recovery if the PC
Is Not Responding
1 Turn off the PC. If necessary, press and hold the On

3 Press the On button to turn on the PC.
4 During the startup, do the following to enter the System
Recovery program:
When the black screen with the Compaq logo appears,

seconds to press the F10 key before the normal startup
process continues.)
5 The PC starts the recovery; wait for the onscreen
instructions to display, and then follow those instructions.
6 Complete the PC startup, finish the registration process,
and wait until you see the desktop. Then, turn off the PC,

My optiplex 320 is making two high pitched beeps on starting boot, also im not getting anything on the monitor

It sounds like the refresh rate is set to high. Since you do not mention what OS is installed I have listed information on how to change in Windows,XP.
Start the computer and press the F8 key. Choose Safe Mode. Once the system gets into Windows follow the steps below and then restart the computer. If this does not resolve your issue email me at my email address below and include your OS information.

How to Change the Screen Refresh Rate of Your Monitor

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.

    Alternatively, right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.
  3. Click the Monitor tab, and then click the screen refresh rate that you want to use.

My xps i don't come on when you boot up the CD light comes on for a second and then all I get is a black screen


When you boot up hold down the F8 button on your keyboard until you see start up options then click on start up repair

Startup Repair is located on the System Recovery Options menu, which is on the Windows Vista installation disc. If your computer has preinstalled recovery options, it might also be stored on your computer's hard disk. If your computer does not include Startup Repair, your computer manufacturer might have customized or replaced the tool. Check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website.
  • Change restart settings in safe mode. If your computer is stuck in a loop where Windows fails, attempts to restart, and then fails again repeatedly, restart your computer in safe mode and select the Disable automatic restart on system failure checkbox. Sytem recovery not fully completed


Do you have the OEM Windows CD with Key Code numbers? If yes and there is nothing on the hard drive you want to save you could try a clean install. Go to set-up and make CD-ROM drive the first boot device and install a new OS. Sometimes with Windows this is the easiest thing to do. I see this recovery/restore stuff leaves a lot to be desired. In other words, it doesn't seem to work half the time.

Code 108 shows on archos 605


The archos 604 is a portable media player. It is not a PC. The Archos 605 WiFi runs embedded Linux on an ARM processor.

Here is a reprint of someone who solved this problem:

i just got my Archos 605 and when accessed the content portal it said i should update my firmware. when i said OK i got the message it faild connecting to the server and my archos froze.

after restarting it i'm getting the Recovery code (108) i tried to repair disk and format disk but both asking me to conncet to the PC and update the system. the problem i cannot conncet to the PC (i don't see the HD) and don't know what to do.

i managed to solve the problem, if you encounter same problem this is what i did:

1. connect the archos to the PC
2. click on repair
3. click on done and wait for a few seconds and you will see the archos as a drive in your windows (be patiant it takes some time)
4. once you see the drive, open it and make sure the System folder is empty, if not delete the file that exists there.
5. put the firmware update file directly on the root drive
6. click repair again on the archos and done.

now it should recognize the update file and perform the update

it worked for me

NOTE: Most HP and Compaq desktop PCs that ship with Windows Vista and XP do not come with recovery discs. Instead, they use a hidden space (partition) on the hard drive to store the recovery information. Using a hidden partition provides a convenient, more stable recovery solution.
Step 1: Create a set of recovery discs or a recovery DVD
To create the recovery disc set, Click Start , All Programs , PC Help & Tools (or similar), open the HP or Compaq Recovery CD-DVD Creation software, and follow the on-screen directions.
If you cannot create recovery discs or your discs have become damaged, continue to the next step.
Step 2: Order recovery CDs on the Web
If you are not able to create a set of recovery discs, you may be able to order a set of replacement discs from HP. HP maintains a stock of replacement recovery discs for several years after the product has been released. However, because of licensing restrictions, HP is only able to provide these recovery discs for a limited time. If your computer is several years past its warranty period, HP may not be able to supply replacement discs for your computer. If this is the case, you can install a new operating system that meets the minimum system requirements of your computer, or, alternatively, upgrade your computer hardware.
To find out if HP has recovery discs that you can order and to order them from HP, use the following steps:
NOTE: The steps in this section apply to United States and Canada. For Europe, Middle East, and Africa please refer to the HP support document Europe, Middle East, and Africa - Statement on the Availability of the Recovery Software on CD . For other countries/regions, contact your local HP support center for information about obtaining recovery CDs.
Go to the Software & Driver Downloads page .
Enter the product number or model name for your computer into the field provided.

Restoration disk


Restoring the PC to its original state by doing a system recovery ! Just make sure you back up your important data if you can before doing the system recovery !


1. Plug in the AC adapter.
2. Turn the system on
3. Immediately, press ALT on the keyboard and start tapping F10.
Continue holding ALT and tapping F10 as the unit boots up.
4. A screen stating "Starting Acer Erecovery" should appear.
(Release ALT and stop tapping F10 at this point)
5. There will be 4 options:
1. Restore system to factory default
2. Restore system from user backup
3. Restore system from cd/dvd
4. Exit

Restore system to factory default

1. Enter the password created when eRecovery was first started.
2. Read the on-screen warning and choose Yes.
3. Click Next. The recovery process will start.

When recovery is complete the system will re-start and will need to complete the setup of Windows.
When setup is complete a process will clean up the recovery files.
Please be patient as this process can take 5-10 minutes or longer.


Restore system from cd/dvd

1. If recovery cd/dvd's were created, they can be used to restore the system.
2. Insert disc 1 and follow the prompts.

When recovery is complete the system will re-start and will need to complete the setup of Windows.
When setup is complete a process will clean up the recovery files.
Please be patient as this process can take 5-10 minutes or longer.
