What is your operating system? Windows Vista Im guessing
since you said you got a new laptop. What I did to install a old programs is just open my computer (Make sure disk is in drive) and right click the CD icon, Go down explore. Right click a icon that says install or setup. go down to properties. click the tab that says compatibility. Check mark "Run this program in compatibility mode for: And choose what that program is ment for. should say on the box that came with your CD. Like Designed for Windows XP. Hope this works...

I have windows 8 installed right now but my computer came with vista how can Igo back to vista with no vista disk but I have the vista registration code on the computer

If you did not make the system disks when you first got the computer then you will need to find the disk somewhere else (unfortunately my disks wouldn't read properly). I just fixed my old vista laptop hard drive crashed. I found the same version of Vista Home Premium in a torrent file on the internet - burnt the disk and installed on a brand new HDD I bought on ebay - used my Vista registration code - might get slammed here but I as I used my original registration code then I can't see how it is pirating.....

Hello. I have a toshiba satellite l355d-s7825 and I need expert advice. When I start the laptop, everything goes well but it doesn't go to the logon menu. It goes right to start up repair. I need to...

most likely your problem occurred due to errors during shutdown the system or hard disk bad sector problems and may be due todamage from the file system.
to measure the recovery of the system, tried to get to safemode (f8)
if you succeed in safemode, do the ScanDisk on c, but if you can not enter safemode is difficult to undo the damage without the recoverycd or windows cd. you can try to open the hard disk of the problemcomputer and connect to other computers that work and do aScanDisk process through the computer and if the computer has the same system with a computer problem, can copy and paste regeditright to the computer of the problem.

Product key

Assuming you mean the product key for Windows, the product key should be on a sticker, usually on the bottom of the laptop. It is probably 25 digits mixed numbers and letters. You should have the disk it came with to install it - sometimes the product key will work with a disk from a different computer, but if the setup disk and your key are different versions it will not work. An example: If you do not have the original setup disk your computer came with, and your computer has XP home and you borrow a disk from someone but it is XP Pro, your number will not work. If your original disk was for XP home and it was with SP-2, (SP = Service Pack) a disk without SP-2 will not work. Plus, the original disk(s) usually came with the drivers you will need to reinstall Windows. You would be pretty lucky to install Windows and not need to download drivers to finish installation. Original setup disks from the manufacturer are not that expensive, and save a lot of time and frustration.

How do you wipe the compaq presario m2000

I'm not sure if you are wiping it to start over or to sell/give away.

Many newer machines have a Recovery Partition, usually your "D:" drive.

Access the System Recovery partition from the Start-All Programs-System Recovery-System Recovery Menu. Following the prompts will allow you to reformat the computer and reinstall the operating system and all software as it came from the factory. From that point, if you don't want any of the factory junk, you'll need to uninstall it yourself.

If the Recovery partition is missing, (usually a D: drive) , then you'll need to have the original Recovery discs which were created when the computer was new.

If you simply want to wipe it, use a disk wiping tool. Many hard drive wipers, cleaners or shredders can be downloaded at no cost. Visit Downloads.com to search for these programs that are designed to wipe your hard drive. Once you have downloaded a disk wiping program, install it on your computer. Each program will have a unique graphical user interface (GUI) and directions for use. Follow the directions for your selected disk wiping tool and run the program to wipe your hard drive. The program will make sure that all files and data have been completely erased by overwriting the entries multiple times.

I cannot find my XP disks and I am not sure my laptop came with installation disks. I want to reformat my laptop is there a way I can do that without the disks?

To reformat is to wipe everything off of your computer's harddrive. If you do not have the Recovery Disks, or an Installation Disk, you will be sitting there with a blank harddrive, and no operational computer.

I just wanted to explain that.

Most people want to restore their computer to what it was like from Day 1, when it came from the factory. For your Toshiba this is, "Recovering the original factory image"

Before you start, you may want to save any documents you have, in your My Documents folder. (My Pictures, My Music, My Video, Documents)
Burn your personal documents off to a CD, or DVD disk.
AFTER you restore back to the original factory image, they WON'T be there anymore.

Your Toshiba has a recovery partition on the harddrive.
Most computers do not have the Recovery Disks sent with them.
Saves the computer manufacturer money. They found that most users do not use the Recovery Disks, and would rather use a repair shop.

They also put the Recovery Partition on the harddrive. Plus the user is asked if they want to make a backup, (Recovery Disk), when they receive the laptop, and start it for the first time.
Problem is you are only asked once.

To recover back to the original factory image:
1.Laptop off. Press and hold down the 0 (Zero) key. Press the Power On button.

2.The Toshiba Recovery Wizard screen should appear.

3.Click on the empty circle to the left of -> Recovery of Factory Default Software.
(DO NOT click on Erase the Hard Disk!)
Click on Next

4.Click the circle for -> Recover to out-of-box-state
Click on Next

5.You'll see a warning message, "All data will be lost during the recovery process"

That's the data, (Information), you have in your My Documents folder, plus any programs you downloaded, or installed.
If they weren't there when the laptop came from the factory, they will be gone.
You know this, it's okay.

You are recovering, (Restoring), your laptop back to what it was like when it came from the factory.

Click on Next. This will start the recovery process. When it is finished a message will come up, and state that the HDD has been recovered. (HarDDrive)

Press on any key. You are finished.

Acer laptop problem: Hard disk/motherboard problem

Try 2 things....1) replace the IDE controller cord or the SATA cord whichever applies. If this doesn't fix the prob try downloading latest mobo updates as well as any Acer updates for your specific model. Let me know if any of this works.

Thx

My hp dv 1000 notebook will not boot up.

It could be that the hard drive drivers may be incorrect, if it started when you got the new hard drive its probably that. So update the driver or reinstall the drivers again,

or

try reinstalling Windows from scratch. (note- this may cause you to lose data).

Hello sir

You are going to have to go without that recovery cd. The data was originally stored on your hard drive hidden away. Its gone now and the Recovery Disk has nothing to work with...its like trying to cook a cake and your have all the instructions but no ingredients. Take everything you have downloaded and burn it onto a cd and make that your new recovery disk.
