I have a pair of LI7000 GMRS/FRS radios from Cobra, when set on the same channel without CTSS or DCS turned on, neither hears the other, and a third radio (known to work) does not pick them up in any meaningful way either. What could be the problem?

Hi,I think the problem is with your tone coded squelch (CTCSS). Your radio channel is like a telephone party line. If your CTCSS is not on, everytime you turn your radio on you will hear anyone on that channel that is close enough to hear.
If you are trying to use these radios for serious communications, that will drive you nuts to hear everybody else talking but not about what you need to hear. To try to mitigate this problem, CTCSS was created. There are 38 different codes. If you for example set your unit to operate on code 11 and your other unit is set to operate on code 12, you could not hear each other.
Now let's add a third unit set to not use CTCSS at all. Neither one of you will be able to hear this third unit but he can hear both of you. Now you set the second unit to code 11 like the first unit. Now you will be able to hear each other. The third unit will still be able to hear both of you but since he is not transmitting code 11, you still can't hear him.
If you are hearing some traffic, it is because they have their CTCSS set to the same code that you are set to. Look in you operators manual for CTCSS Privacy Codes. Set your radios accordingly and your problem is solved.

if you still insist on resetting your device, you can get e full description on how to do this in your users manual,if you don't have one you can get it for free at;www.manualsonline.com

Hello,

What is the signal strength of the radio and is other similar radio able to communicate?

It could be that the signal antenna of your radio is faulty, maybe that is why it is not communicating with other radios. check if others are able to communicate with each other because the fault could be from the radio weather station.

I will advice you check the manual of your radio to get the procedure on how to reset it.

Take care.

Tip

Reset the Radio on your 2001-2005 Honda Civic

If the radio on your 2001-2005 Honda Civic (as well as some other Honda products) has lost power for any reason (i.e. dead battery, blown fuse, etc), you will need to enter the reset code.

The reset code for the factory installed radio is located in the glove box. Open the compartment; On the back of the door, usually near the left side, there should be a small white sticker. The sticker has one alph-numeric set and one set containing five numeric digits. The number set with five digits is the reset code for your factory installed radio.

Turn on the radio. When you see "CODE", use the corresponding station pre-set buttons to enter the code. If entered correctly, the radio should active immediately.

Not having any information on how it was installed, make or model of radio, I can't be of much help. You need to provide more information on what you've done so far.

Cant reset my motorola talkabout t5000

Constant static can be a sign of a bad or low battery. If the battery is known to be good, try the radios outside the factory setting to see if the problem persists. If you have no problem when you are away from the machinery, you may need to set your interference eliminator code to a number other than zero. This will turn your eliminator ON, which will block out the radio frequency interference caused by the machines.

If the problem persists outside of the factory, then you should try replacing the batteries. OR possibly just cleaning the battery contacts with a pencil eraser.

The method you are using for resetting the radio will take the radio back to the factory default settings. It will not solve the problems listed above. It will only reset the frequency and code back to the original settings.

My IC-F21 portable radio wont communicate with each other. is there a reset?

You will need the programming software to check all settings of the two radios. If both radios are programmed the same then you need to run tests on why they wont communicate to each other. Unfortunatly there is no "reset" for the radios. Carl

How do I Reset my T5000 2 way radio to factory default

The T5000 Talkabout radio default settings are not the same as the CP100 and CLS. The CLS and the CP100 UHF are capable of being programmed to match one another on several frequencies, however, the TalkAbout T5000 is not capable of any of them.

The Talkabout radios, as a general rule, are limited to FRS and GMRS frequencies. The CP100 and CLS are from the business and light consumer divisions. They will do most of the common 56 UHF business frequencies.

If you would like to look at the frequency charts yourself, here are some links.

Here are the frequencies possible on the T5000 http://www.fixya.com/support/p514922-motorola_talkabout_t5000_2_way_radio/manual-362/page-17

Greetings,

What kind of radio? Portables? Mobile? Need a lot more info. Otherwise, based on what you have said, and only that little bit of info, it sounds like you have a portable with a battery that will not hold sufficient charge to transmit. Quite common.
