Most likely your internal wireless card has gone bad. Not to worry, though, they're rather inexpensive on ebay and Tigerdirect.com. A qualified technician may charge quite a bit to install it, though so for the time being there's the option of using a USB type adapter. Tips for a great answer:
Had same problem - said signal weak although strong on other devices, and hung on authenticating.
Cordless phone on base unit was beside wireless router. Moved unit and turned off phone. Problem disappeared, and signal showed strong.
