I would like to make the repair myself, a service manual would be essential.

Is the color wheel referenced by any other name, I see nothing in the service manual that references the color wheel that you mentioned.

You have the inevitable color wheel problem. The DMD module reflects the picture on to the color wheel which spins at a high speed of several thousand RPM. When the motor is damaged or the wheel itself is damaged you will have problems like the one you are having. You can get one along with the motor for under 200$ and not a very tough repair but its slightly tricky as getting it into the housing is slightly tough. A tv tech would charge you about 100$ for this or if you wanna do it yourself a service manual will be of mighty help. I will see if I got one if you want to DIY.

Sai.

No it is just called color wheel. In a rear projection tv it is found near the ballast behind the set. The Service manual must have skipped it. regardless of the brand it is located at the same location in an RP tv.Only the number of screws/locks will differ while sliding the chassis out. Here is a nice pictorial for you

On left half of the screen [ KP51WS510 ], a redish shadow showing

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Projection sets have two very common problems outlined below.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. The TV can also shut down when the convergence starts to fail.

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith, RCA and others.

never adjust the tubes themselves( No-NO) these are affixed to the chasis in one position and not to be moved. no adjustments should ever be attempted to anything directly attached to the tubes. this will throw off centering, soft-focus, & convergence alignments. it can be corrected but a huge burr on the bottom of the foot! what you have are faulty convergence ic's and maybe sme low-ohm resistors that are bad. repair in-home should not exceed 350.00. parts and labor. mch

Blue convergence

DO you have 2 possible solutions

1.--Look under the CTR ( picture tubes) for leak coolant , all the times this set leaking, if is positive, use alcohol 90% with a bottle spray, clean the area, tied screws gasket ctr and let dry for 6 hours minimum.

2.--Loose connections on the left chassis ( convergence board), re solder ( look for possible resistor born)
