Chainsaw brake has jammed on how can it be reset

Chainsaw brake on my neighbour's Husqvana 41 petrol chainsaw has jammed on. I have taken the coverplate off but there is no means of slackening the sprung band. How do you slacken it off so it can be reasssembled and reset?

Hello David; I think you are saying it is operating normally and is intact but the brake is released and the band will not fit over the clutch drum. If I am correct this latches the band open when the hand guard is attached to the clutch cover.

If you do not have a vise a large C clamp to a work surface might work, you may still need a block or two of wood.

If the hand guard is not attached to the clutch cover try this:

If the chain brake is broken it is probably wrappes arond the clutch drum you will need to pry it off with a screw driver and probably have to replace the complete chain brake

How do I remove the clutch cover from a Ryobi chainsaw?

There are two nuts that hold the clutch cover and chain bar in place. The same nuts you would loosen to adjust the chain tension. Once those are taken off the cover, bar and chain can be removed.

Threads in barrel that hold exaust bolts have been stripped, husqvana 350 chainsaw, would be grateful for advice.

Take it to a local chainsaw seller/mechanic. They will put in a threaded insert (Heli-coil) for less than the price of the tools required for you to do it. Call local saw shops for an estimate. Should be $10±. HTH

Your saws piston is probably shot. To check remove the exhaust, to do this remove the retaining bolts and take the exhaust off. remember the order you take off the parts! When the exhaust is removed slowly pull the saw over (with the on off switch off) look at the piston as you do this. If there is any visible scoring the saw is unfortunatly knackered. You can replace the pot and piston but it's usually expensive!!
