SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

I get the message 'protected card' Next trick?

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked/protected", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common cause is having the tiny slide switch on the side of the card in the wrong position. The second most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. There are also other common causes if the above didn't help, with troubleshooting steps for this problem listed here.

I have a fujifilm 12.0 megapixel camera .it has a fujifilm 2gb memory card and it keeps saying protected card, could you tell me why its doing this

The card is most likely an SD card which has a lock on the side of it to protect pictures from deletion sometimes this switch gets pushed in the wrong direction. I'm including a "generic" picture/diagram of this switch.

Also you will need to format the memory card before it will work properly and be totally compatible with the camera you will need to look in your camera manual for this information. You didn't give me the model of the camera or I would have been able to direct your to the correct page. Once the memory card has been formatted everything should work just fine.

What does "protected card" mean? I have a 2GB Kodak memory card in my Fujifilm/12.2 camera. Lost manuel. Thanks.

It means that the card has been write protected thru the menu program in the camera. To fix this, you will have to go thru the menu and set it to unprotected.
Obtaining a manual for this camera is as simple as going to the Fuji website and downloading the manual in PDF format to your computer.

The SD card has on a side a little switch. Turn in to the other position and it should work fine.
