If you want to play dota on Warcraft 3 you need to download the map,
then find the Warcraft 3 folder and open it, then open folder called "maps" and cut the DotA map in to that folder... And when you start Warcraft just find it and play it (be sure you have patch 1.24b).
I dont know are you thinking on DotA 2 or Warcraft 3 DotA...This is the answer for Warcraft 3 DotA.
Hello Are you running the latest drivers for your vid card? Also have there been any updates or patches to the game? Check the forums at the blizzard website there are usually alot of good answers from other gamers.
The CD key should be located on the manual or the game box that came with it. If you BOUGHT a digital copy it should be sent in an e-mail to the associated account.
However, if you downloaded this game illegally, you cannot receive help from us. It is illegal to use other CD-keys without buying the game and illegal to share them. I would not recommend further searching for one, because you will have to sift through tons of virus infested keygens and warez files that can destroy your computer.
1. Open Warcraft 3
2. Head online to Battle.net
3. Go to custom games
4. Look for someone hosting a DoTA game
5. Join the game and let it download.
6. Play and Enjoy!
If that doesn't work, or if no one has a DoTA game running, Message me back, and I will set a time and I will host a DoTA game for you to install.
If only monitors turns off it means that game is in higher resolution than monitor can support.
However, warcraft is preety old game and such things shouldn't happen.
Possible sollutions: 1. Download lastest Video card drivers from producent website 2. Install lastest DirectX 3. If still problem occurs: Click Start->Run... enter "regedit" -> press enter open following directories: HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Blizzard Entertainment -> Warcraft III -> Video

I assume you were asking how to install game without patch. Game installed from PC will have the version depending on when CD was burned.
However using patches doesn't do anything bad so it's strongly recommended to always have the lastest patch. Download you will find here: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=21220&parentCategoryId&pageNumber=1&categoryId=2542
