Device: Garmin Nuvi 660 NA. After power on, nuvi boots thru to the "Where to" page. On the prior page, the touchscreen will not click "Enter" but after a time delay, nuvi proceeds to...

*Master reset your Garmin Device:

1.Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power;

2.Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil

3.Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON

4.Release the power button when the device powers ON

5.You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?

6.Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays - Touch Yes

7.The device will automatically reset. Please follow the on screen prompts on the nuvi .

*If the touchscreen is incorrectly detecting where your finger touches the screen, the screen may need to be calibrated.

1.Power the unit On.From the Where to? and View map screen, touch Settings . Touch Display>Touch Re-calibrate

2.A new screen will display that says Press Dot,Touch the Center of the Dot.

>Keep touching the center of the dot as it moves around the screen.

3.When Calibration Complete appears on the screen, please touch OK.

The screen will now be Re-calibrated.

*If the screen is not responding to touch, the device may not have enough power to function properly. Recharge the battery completely and try again. If the battery does not charge, it may need to be replaced.

If the screen is still not responding to touch commands or displaying properly, the display may need to be replaced. If sound comes from the device, it is likely the motherboard is working, and only the display needs to be replaced.

Refer to:Garmin Nuvi 660 Screen Replacement Guide

Before replacing the display, check that the ribbon cables connecting the display to the motherboard are connected securely.

Touch screen not responding

The first thing I suggest you try is a "reset" - open the GPS antenna and look behind it for a small round plastic button. The Garmin should re-start.

If the problem is still there, there are two possibilities: the screen itself is defective and needs to be replaced, or perhaps it has just become disconnected. If you are moderately brave, you can repair this yourself. If not, look for a repair service.

Here is a step-by-step explanation of how to replace the screen. Look at it and decide if you think you are up to it. http://www.portatronics.com/guide/GPS-Repair-Guide/garmin-nuvi-660-screen-replacement.html

Before you order a new screen, look at step 15 in the page above. It is possible that the small ribbon connector has simply come out of its clip. If it has, carefully lift its connector latch (a small black tab), slide the loose ribbon cable back into place and close the latch - and you've probably solved the problem. If not, search on line for a replacement screen. When you do, choose a vendor who includes the special tools (shown in the web page above).

My Garmin Nuvi 660 touch screen is frozen. I've tried to reset it with the switch on the back. I've tried connecting it to my computer to reset it. Powering on and off don't work.

Sounds like your firmware needs updated. Just go to Garmin’s website then downloads and update your firmware. As long as there is no screen damage but just touch screen not working that will fix it. An easy test is to take out the battery and if the unit works for second then freezes you just need to update firmware. Turn off unit plug into computer via usb cable and do firmware update, that easy!!!! Hope that helps?

Garmin C550 touch screen problem

I just had the same problem and fixed it.... Open the front panel, take out the 4 screws, open carefully the machine. Inside, there are 4 little screws that keep the computer board in place. Take them out and you'll see 2 ribbons, one smaller than the other. That small ribbon need to be pushed back into place. For that, pull the little grey slot and put the ribbon back in all the way and secure it with the plug. That's it! It works right away but it took me a few time for it to hold all the way to close the machine up. Basically, the problem comes from that ribbon being lose or totally out of it slot! I hope that helps! Good luck!

Touchscreen not responding.

There are three levels of fixes, please try them in order:
1. Reset the GPS using the Reset button, on the back, just under the Antenna Hinge. Resetting will turn off the GPS, and then turn it back on, if connected to power. Test, if fixed, great, otherwise, go to fix 2.
2. Turn the power off, then press and hold the powerbutton for up to 2 minutes. The GPS will turn on, and display a "PreBoot Mode" message. When that message disappears, and the screen calibration screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions, and you are fixed. If you still cannot use the touch screen, repeat fixes 1 and 2 several times, just to be sure., then go to fix 3
3. The touch-screen glass has probably broken or lost its connection with the GPX motherboard. You can order new touch screen glass on the web and install yourself, if you are techy in nature, otherwise do a search for "garmin nuvi 660 repair" and choose your service.

Touch screen frozen Nuvi 660

Most likely due to internal cable coming loose from main board, perhaps after dropping unit.

Requires fair skill level to open cover and replace cable in connector.

Garmin Nuvi 660 touch screen freezes up. Soft

I sat on the phone for 30 minutes waiting for Garmin support when my Nuvi suddenly had no touch screen response. They had me delete a file on the device (with it hooked to my computer) then reboot and it went thru a touch screen alignment and it worked.

Sadly, it has frozen again and I don't recall the file (it had been a GCD file in all caps, that is all I know and I don't see a file in all caps any more). I will be calling support tomorrow.

My take is that it *is* a firmware thing *and* there is some way to reset the firmware.

My garmin nuvi 670 touch screen is not calibrated

Have you tried using the screen calibration command? Press the Wrench symbol, then the Display symbol and then Calibrate screen. Press the dots as it tells you to and you should now have a calibrated touchscreen.
