Question about Compaq Armada 110 Notebook

1 Answer

I have bought a PIII 1Ghz CPU to replace my armada 110 Celeron 700MHZ CPU, Sometimes it works well for about an hour then just turn itself off, other times only lasted a few minutes. I've noticed that the fan has been running quite hard as soon as I switched the machine on, I wonder if the problem is with the slight different working temperature of the two CPU or the FSB frequency is not set right? the original Cpu is SL4P2 , and the 1Ghz is SL52R. please help me out if you can, thanks

Please refer to the datasheet of the motherboard and see if the processor is compatible. If it is then reseat the processor ensuring it is making contact with the heatsink and the thermal paste is not peeled.

With out knowing your motherboard it's a guess. However you can look at the link below. Then scroll to the bottom of the page. Your SL52R should be the 4th cpu from the bottom of the list. It doesn't look likely and it definitely runs hotter. http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Pentium_III/RB80526PY700256.html

The fastest Pentium 3 that will work in your board is a Intel Pentium III 1GHz chip. Here is a link to the specs:
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-III/Intel-Pentium%20III%201000%20-%20RB80526PY001256%20%28BX80526F1000256%29.html

You could also get a Intel Celeron 1.1 GHz but it only has half the level 2 cache size so it's actually a bit slower than the Pentium III 1GHz chip.
Here's a link to celeron specs:

CPU Upgrade

You pulled the processor out of your laptop ... that was a brave move ... generally laptop boards are fully integrated so there is very few options on changing the processor ... also because of the extreme heating conditions the heat sink bonding is very critical ... make sure you replace this properly or you will have overheating issues in the future ...

No you can't pull out as the CPU is surface mounted soldered on the mainboard, only manufacturer or approved repairer can take it out and put the new CPU with only the correct voltage specs.

don't try yourself otherwise you will damage the entire laptop.
