Does it power on? you could tell by looking at the light that comes on usually at the side or the front panel of your laptop. If it does then you must have busted your inside portion of your LCD screen, sometimes you can tell as a spiderweb of light forms on your screen as you try to power on your computer, but sometimes it just goes to total darkness. If your laptop doesn't power up then check to see if your battery is not seated properly. Try to take it out and put it back and hear it click as it seats itself. If nothing works then your motherboard is broken as a result of the fall and you could either replace that or buy yourself a new laptop
Unfortunately the only option you have is to have the LCD screen replaced, they are easily damaged in a fall and there nothing more than can be done. But the video cable from the motherboard to the screen might have been jarred loose and should be checked.
It sounds like something came partially loose or was damaged. You can try that theory by taking it apart and looking. Or finding someone who can without charging you a lot. You'd be amazed what TV and video repair people can do. My guess is that it fell on its side, and a new LCD may be needed. But I agree that something may be done with it, as nothing is burnt or dead, as you said.
