Question about GE Security Simon 3 Wireless Home Security System

1 Answer

My alarm started going off by its self. I went to shut it off but both key pads where dead and it would not stop. I disconnected the siren to stop, if I reconnect the siren it will continue to go off. The alarm is plugged in and the battery back up is working as well. How do I get the keypads to light back up and respond?

Thanks for the help. I unplugged the power and the back-up battery and then plugged back in, and it turned the keypads back on and the system seems to be working. I did not experience any electrical storm or power outage when the incident occurred. Is this something I should have checked out or do these type of things happen with systems? I would hate for it to do this in the middle of the night or when I wasn't home. I have had the system for 5 years with no issues. Thanks again.

Did you have an electrical storm or a possible power outage? It sounds like your system either has been power surged or has a blown fuse which is affecting power going to your keypads. Another possibility is the system may have gotten a glitch. Try removing both the battery from the system and unplugging the power transformer in that order. Leave the system powered down for at least a minute then plug the transformer in first followed by the battery. Please get back to me anf provide as much detail as you can. Hope this helps.

I really wouldn't be too concerned about it happening again. I've been in the security business for over 30 years and while I see systems "glitching up" such as yours, it is rare that this happens. However, if it happens again, I would get someone to take a look at it. Sometimes glitches are caused by not grounding the control panel properly. I have found over the years many security system installers fail to or don't take the time to ground their systems. So, if this happens again have someone who knows what they are doing come out and take a look at it.

Try removing the alarm system relay, some car alarm has also a fuse on the alarm that you can remove.
Many car alarms unlock by inserting and turning car key while you connect the battery.

The alarm may not be going off. Rather it may be a malfunction of the relay that is driving all the sirens and piezo. Next time it happens check for flashing parking lights. They will flash only when alarm is going off. Also ignition input to the alarm prevents this alarm from going off while driving. Panic from the remote can still be triggered. Got to play detective....

most modern day car alarm systems started being factory fitted well over 10 years ago. The back up ni-cad battery inside the main siren will probably now be derelict and will cause many false alarms and immobiliser faults. In most cases, find out where the siren is tucked away( it will not be eady to get too because its a security device), and either replace the unit or ni-cads or just unplug it.
Always best to get car rescanned and clear dtc codes afterwards though too.
Note: keyfob batteries must be replaced annually on service date.
Cheers
