Hi on the base of the unit to the left hand side are two outlets, under the far l/h one is a small hole(it should be marked reset) yours could have worn away.
Straighten a small paperclip and insert carefully into the hole when resistance is felt, push just a very, very small amount more. Remember GENTLY DOES IT
My archos which is only 11/2 years old will not charge with my computer connection. I have tried resetting it and it just shuts down and repeatedly beeps with the red light flashing. The battery is shot so it will not stay on for more that 1 minute. I cannot transfer music or movies without it shutting down half way through the process

Go to settings and look under system.Then look where it says usb peference then see if it says windows media device if not change it to this and if that doesnt work try the other settings.If that doesnt work go to Archos.com and contact them and see what they can do.
