Does the 1999 chevrolet cavalier have a timing belt or a timing chain and if it breaks do the valves hit the pistons.

The 99 cavalier 2.2 and 2.4 both use a timing chain and yes, if the chain breaks it can damage valves. If the engine still cranks over you can remove the upper coil module cover, remove a spark plug, roll the engine over and see if compression builds. If the engine does not crank over, the broken chain will prevent the engine from turning.

How do you fix your broken down wheels in the middle of nowhere but you do have your emrgency kit and fixing kit ?

I learned by experience. When something breaks down, I learn to fix it for when it breaks down the next time. On a bike, the parts most likely to break down are a flat tire and a broken chain. Carrying a flat repair kit and a multi tool to fix a broken chain is feasible. You can break a wheel spoke. This you can't fix in the field but you can compensate by learning which spokes to loosen/tighten adjacent the broken one to get you home/shop. You can break a brake or derailleur cable. A spare cable is light and easy to carry but it is very time consuming to replace in the field. Depending on how far you are from home, it may be easier to ride home with a broken cable. Preventive maintenance is the best way to avoid broken cables and/or chains - replace them every 3 years or so, depending on usage and wear/tear. Other broken parts, you will have to assess in the field. You may have to walk home or call a friend to pick you up.

How doe the band on my chain break attach to my chainsaw mine is broken and i do not know how to install it. or how to get the clutch off so i can replace it

It can be a little tricky!

If you are referring to chain break band

Tools you will need:
1/2 Socket (to remove bar nuts)
T25(torq) or you can use a Flathead screw driver but is a little harder.

Remove 2 bar nuts,Clutch cover, bar, chain, 2 screws on black bar handle right behind clutch cover(this is needed because there is a hidden screw there for the chain break) You will need a new chain brake (my guess is that it is part # 530071893 aprox $15) but you will want to verify that with your model number.

You should see the chain break assembly, 3 - T25 screws are visible after the clutch cover is removed(note sometimes you have to clean saw dust to make screw head visible) the other T25 screw is hidden under the black bar handle. Once you remove all 4 screws on the chain brake you will be able to pull it off.

Installing the new one is the tricky part because if it is set(or break is on) you will have a hard time putting it on.One of the easiest ways is to focus on it near the muffler you will see that a metal 3 pronged gear fits into the plastic part of the chain break handle.and if the band is too tight to fit over the clutch drum you will have to carefully reset it by applying pressure onto the area that has the 3 pronged gear and chain break handle make sure that the handle is pushed forward all the way while you apply pressure then slowly pull chain break handle back till you hear a "snap" this resets the chain brake spring and the band should now fit over the clutch drum. Now, proceed with putting back together 4 chain brake assembly screws,2 handle screws, and bar, chain, clutch cover, and 2 bar nuts.

Please note it is important that you apply quite a bit of pressure onto chain break area where metal (3 pronged) gear fits into handle while resetting or when you reset it the metal part can cut into and damage the plastic piece in the chain break handle.

You can see a breakdown here:

Hope this helps!

Your may have timing belt get loose / wear down , but still work. Observe your time belt and check your maintenance record. Don't wait any longer. An abnormal timing belt will led your car to fatal damage.

How do you know when the timing change go? Thank you.

Technically, timing chains are designed and built to last the entire life of the engine. So in theory, you should replace it only when it's broken. However, if the chain breaks while your engine is running, it could wreak considerable havoc, so waiting for a break isn't the best practical strategy. Before a timing chain breaks there are signs of wear, and it isn't hard to check for them. If your Jeep Cherokee is showing some of the signs, it is time to replace the timing chain.
Timing Chain Function
  • The timing chain connects the camshaft to the crankshaft via a gear system so that the top and bottom ends of the engine rotate together. If the timing chain has stretched and is skipping teeth, the timing will be thrown off badly, causing the Cherokee to run inefficiently, if at all. If the timing chain breaks altogether, the Jeep's engine will simply shut off, and many valve train components can be damaged in the process.
  • Loose Chain
  • Remove the distributor cap on the Cherokee's engine so that you can see the rotor. Then rotate the engine by hand with a wrench on the crank pulley very slowly. The rotor should begin to rotate with the engine almost immediately. If there is any delay, it is likely that the timing chain is stretched and needs to be replaced.
  • Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

    Brake not releasing 14inch ryobisaw

First try cleaning it. Begin by removing the spark plug wire. Then remove the housing and inspect the chain break for broken chain brake parts such as the spring. If all appears intact clean away saw dust, sticks or other debris. Otherwise, the chain break may be simply wore out and need replacing.

Suzuki DR650RS Camshaft is broken into two parts. what could be the reason for breaking axles

In normal operation, there is no way the chain or valve springs could break a shaft. The only possibility, other than a defective camshaft when the bike was new, is that the cam chain was so loose the slack bound up around the sprocket causing enough pressure to break the shaft. Replace the chain, sprocket and camshaft and check the operation of the cam chain tensioner assembly. Please rate my answer.
