The mouse pad on my laptop seem to have a mind of it's own. The mouse clicks at random times on it's own.

your mouse pad is too sensitive. I despise laptops just for that sole reason. I have a USB mouse on my MDG and the mouse pad on the laptop turned off. I am also saner now..

USB Port Problem

Did something happen to the port setting? To find out, right click on My Computer, select properties, then select Device Manager. Does the Universal Serial Bus controller show up with no X's? Did it show up under the ? Other Devices section? You may need to uninstall and then reboot. Windows will discover new hardware and should find the driver for you.

That's my thoughts, so far. Except for the random shutdown. I am reminded of a guy who brought his system in with USB problems, no Internet, and a host of other problems. I discovered that almost all of his services had been disabled. Services and Applications, Services, also under Manage. I put my laptop on the same screen and restored his settings to match mine. Good luck in your hunt.

Acer Aspire 3004 - Random reboots; random mouse program select w/o mouse click

the rebooting could well be a driver error, and you pc is set to reboot instead of stopping and showing the code numbers on a blue screen togive any clues, but it sounds as if it could be the touchpad driver. Go to my computer icon, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager and look down the list for mice and other pointing devices and click the '+' sign and it will probably read synaptics touchpad, right click on it and select uninstal. Restart your notebook and the touchpad will be installed automatically and should, if the driver is not corrupt perform as normal.

GO TO REGISTRY EDIT, FIND HKEY_CONTROLPANEL\MOUSE.

DELETE THE KEYS THEN RESTART WINDOWS.
WINDOWS WILL REBUILD THE KEYS.
IT MAY BE THAT YOUR REG KEY IS CORRUPTED.
