I am trying to download the software for my Microsoft lifecam vx-1000 but it keeps lagging during the installation and freezing or taking forever and never finishing up. Help? (I grabbed the software/driver link off Microsoft.com too)

You can download the driver here :- http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/236296/microsoft-lifecam-nx-6000-vx-1000-vx-3000-vx-6000-driver-1.21-windows-xp-free-download.html
the camera has a built in microphone,so after a proper installation you should have the video and mic funtioning.
but in your case, the cam doesn't work, so you have to try first uninstall the driver >> unplug the camera USB port >> then make a restart >> plud the camera back into the usb >> and install the drivers again.
